dress"crisis" could use suggestions/HELP

as feared my FSD does not fit into her altered dress, which she's wearing to prom tomorrow (SATURDAY).  The hook and eye popped off.  I've posted pics showing the fit.  THere is no way to get her to a seamstress in time.  ANY SUGGESTIONS??

  • Do you have a nice white shawl she could wear over her shoulders/upper back?  It could cover up the fact that the zipper doesn't close, also depending on how she wears it could cover the rolls in the chest/arm area.

From a distance you won't see the zipper as much, but could you use a tiny golden safety pin to close it (take some resistance off the zipper)?

  • I agree with Sara's suggestion of pairing the dress with a nice white shawl/scarf/cover up for prom.  Hopefully, now that she sees the dress is a bit snug, she will work to lose a couple of pounds or the dress can be altered by the wedding.
  • My vote is for a safety pin and some double-sided toupee tape (its made to hold on hairpieces, so it's gentle on skin). I don't know how amenable she'll be to wearing a shawl to prom (dancing!) but she could do that for the dinner portion? Then by the time everybody gets to dancing the room will be darkened and nobody will notice the zipper. Actually, I don't think anybody will notice the zipper to begin with, but if she's self-conscious, then shawl.

    It's a really pretty dress!
  • One thought I had was to try a different bra or pick up some kind of supportive under garment. It may help to suck things in a little. I've used Assets from Target and like them. You could bring the dress in to the store and have her try it on with some different under garments to see if that helps.
  • thank you all. she is not big on the wrap/shawl idea but I have 3 different bras for her to try, and we are hoping that she can sweat enough today (she is the drum majorette of her high school parade band) that just maybe we can get the zipper all the way up.  I am also calling some stores looking for the toupee tape as well.  great suggestions
  • she almost started crying at first because of the bluges near her arms and in her back, so I showed her how we could kinda smooth out her back...which did help a bit...she's dealing with it pretty maturely though and keeping a positive attitude.  I think I would have come unglued at her age
