Trying to build a menu, need some help.

So I have been working on matching my menu to my theme. I don't want to say it's a Fairytale theme, mainly because I'm not incorporating just one Fairytale. My dress and the groomswear is inspired by Beauty and the Beast, ascots and all. For the cake, thought of playing off Snow White and have an apple cake, with little peices of apple inside. Favors would be caramel apples, and since it's a winter wedding, I thought of serving hot apple cider.

I know for certain, my groom and I want to have potato soup as part of the meal. Otherwise, I'm completely lost on what else to add to the menu. I thought about bread pudding, due to I can see fairytale characters eating it, but I need more solid food. I thought crab meat for The Little Mermaid (and crab is my favorite food) and he wants some sort of meat. He told my mother that "Surf and Turf" is what he thinks the direction is, but I don't know how well it'll work. Any suggestions? Please?

  • If you're going with a Beauty and the Beast theme you could take menu items from the song "Be Our Guest."  "Beef ragu', cheese souffle, pie and pudding en flambe?"

Or you could just go with a French provencal theme in general.  Cocktail hour could include french cheeses, crackers, pate', etc.   First course is rustic potato soup, main course could be choice of filet mignon with marchand du vin or bearnaise, "le poisson" (fish option; also some guests might catch the Little Mermaid reference), and ratatouille for the vegetarian option.

Try to think outside the box and not be so literal with it.  When it comes down to food people want something tasty.  If it happens to fit the theme too, then awesome! But don't force something awkward in the name of the theme.
