WTF? Canola Oil?

So I just wandered over to the Getting in Shape board and a girl posted about how her WW spokesman told her to get 2 servings of oil into her diet to help her with her digestive system.  Currently, she is taking CANOLA OIL....This sounds like a terrible idea to me.  First of all, it sound disgusting.  Secondly, it doesn't sound like the healthiest way to go about making yourself regular.  Thirdly, wouldn't a medimucil drink or benefiber tablets be a better option?  Even flaxseed!  But we're talking straight up canola cooking oil.  Thoughts?  Has anyone else heard of this method? Has anyone tried it?

I'm pretty sure I would ingest olive oil if I had to pick an oil.

It almost makes sense to me...you know, providing some lubrication.  However, if it was me, I would probably do that liquid stuff that you can add to water.  It's clear and no one has to know.

I'll be honest...after a little problem I had last month, my doctor told me to take fiber regularly to help me out.  I've been taking that Metamucil Berry Blast stuff with water.  It's actually not too bad and it actually makes me feel better... I see the point about the lubrication, but when she said she used canola oil, I felt my arteries clog up a little bit.

I was on WW for awhile and they recommend 2 Tablespoons of "healthy" oils a day (within your daily points limit). Most girls I knew incorporated it into their cooking. I agree... I think she may have misinterpreted the suggestion, and flaxseed or olive oil is a much better option. That being said, I don't know the reason (maybe to help digestive health?) and didn't incorporate it... unless I happened to be skillet frying something in olive oil!

I have heard of this, but never tried it or known anyone to try it.  You're right... there seem like so many better ways.  Heck, I like Activia's strawberry yogurt better than any other strawberry yogurt I've had.

I have never heard of anyone just ingesting spoonfuls of oil in the name of health. Although, like PP, when I was on WW they suggested that you keep a little bit of fat in your diet. But seriously, it is very difficult to have a completely fat-free diet. Eat some nuts! Have a salad with olive oil dressing! Ugh.

I've periodically had to take a teaspoon of olive oil, but canola oil? Ew...

If you are taking fiber AND want to lose weight (or just eat less) my doctor gave me a great secret, that isn't unhealthy for you. It only works will the fiber pills (like "fiber con"), not the drinks or yogurt: When you take your recommended 2 fiber con pills make sure to take them 30 minutes before a meal (preferable your largest if you are only taking the fiber once a day). Then drink the recommended very large glass of water, two if you can stomach it. Now obviously drinking all that water will fill you up but in addition to that the fiber pills absorb water, alot, and fill up in your stomach, therefore making you feel more full before your meal...and then you won't eat as much. Easy. And it keeps you "regular" lol Wayyyy better than drinking oil...YUCK

Hmmm...I should start doing the fiber con pill.
