candy bar, carb bar?

im having a cocktail hour before a big dinner. im wanting to serve something little to snack on so im going to have a candy bar and what im going to call a carb bar. im needing help to figure out what to serve for both bars. for the carb bar im wanting to have things like trail mix, peanuts, stuff like that. if you have any ideas let me know. oh and im wanting to keep it as cheap as we can.

If it were me, I'd focus on just savory items and maybe a chocolate if you're set on a sweet too. I don't see most people wanting to drink and eat candy before dinner.

I'd do bowls or pretty glasses of mixed nuts, maybe even goldfish crackers or something else small and crunchy, wasibi peas could be fun...little easy to eat things. You could also do one larger cheese and cracker display. That would all be pretty inexpensive.

I'd save the candy bar for favors, if you haven't decided on those yet. jmo Look into buying candy in bulk online to keep your costs down there.

I agree with Miracle.  I would not be that interested in eating lots of sugar while drinking before dinner.  You could have some trail mix with chocolate (or white chocolate chips, or peanut butter chips) to get some sweetness in.  We like to go to Costco and get big things of cashews, dried blueberries, dried cranberries, raisins, and m&ms and make our own trailmix, which I think cuts down on the cost.  You could also have candied nuts (maybe almonds or pecans) to add some sweetness.

Yeah I was thinking people wouldn't want candy before dinner either. I was wanting to have it, because people will have access to it all night. I just don't know.

You can have a candy bar set up all night. But I'd set up a cheese and cracker display, and probably a fruit tray and veggie tray with dip to go with the cocktails.

I'm also not sure what you're getting at with the "carb bar." At first I thought mashed potatoes, fried ravioli, rolls, maybe potato chips with fancy dip. But peanuts aren't carbs.

It sounds like you could meld the two together and call it a snack bar. I'm with the others though, I think it sounds great for after dinner, but before, not so much, especially with all the sweets.
