Make your own Sundae Bar

Okay... I absolutely love ice cream, practically consider it its own food group. When looking at the "add ons" at our venue a make your own sundae bar was one of them. I thought this was be an awesome thing to set up after dinner to have with cake. My fiance says people probably won't want to eat ice cream along with drinking beer, wine, etc.

I keep telling myself he is wrong... but the more I think about it, I guess he makes a good point. We aren't having any kids at the reception either. Would this be a lavish expense that only I would enjoy, or do you honestly think it is something guests would like?

:-)

I can tell you DH and I would love it.  I personally believe ice cream can compliment any beverage......:)

Me too! I'm thinking maybe he is just so anti-ice cream because he only enjoys it once in a while where I could eat it everyday... Hmmm.

I would love it.  FI would love it.

Oh, and if you haven't tried it, a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a really good stout is delicious.  It's like a beer float.  Mmm.

I'd love this and so would a lot of my family members - they're not big cake fans so an ice cream option would pleasantly surprise them!

I agree - I'd pick ice cream instead of cake! I regularly turn down wedding cake.

we considered doing one :) i kind of wish we did. H and I both love ice cream!

if this is a 'no kids' affair, then i would get some more 'luxury' flavors and toppings, while still keeping the 'classic' toppings and such.  i think it sounds fun! i think your FI will love it once he sees it, and i think a lot of your guests will enjoy it!

Have you considered serving it as a late night snack?

I would LOVE it. I wanted one but my FI wanted a waffle/ice cream bar thing. We are doing it late night.

Sundaes are great! I think people will love it.

I had one at my engagement party and everyone had some. I put it on top of the cupcakes that were also served haha and it was delicious all mushed together.
And then the next day I went from a size 4 to a 14 haha- just kidding.

But, it's a great option. Put the candy in glass apothecary jars, have fresh whipped cream, hot fudge, hot butterscotch etc :)

LOVE it!  Ice cream is my favorite food and if you had all kinds of yummy toppings for me to make my own sundae I would be thrilled!

thanks for all of the advice, ladies! I agree about using more "adult friendly" toppings... and serving it as a late night snack is a fab idea. :-)

Bangbangshakeit, we are doing EXACT thing for our late night snack. Not really late night, but dinner will be done around 7:30, and we are bringing it out about 10 pm. We will have a few kids, but the teens/20-somethings and all our 50-ish friends will love it too.

We are having 3 kinds of ice cream, several sauces, and multiple toppings.

I think it's a great idea!  My friend had an ice cream bar (as well as cake and cupcakes) at her wedding last summer, and the ice cream was the most popular dessert by far.
