Reception Food

Just joined The Knot tomight! We are getting married in Vegas but are having a nice reception as soon as we get home. We've booked a loft reception room and are planning on 50-90 people. It will be the weekend right after Thanksiving, so we want to avoid anything similar to a holiday dinner, and we are envisioning something unique or are considering going the heavy appetizers route. our venue allows us to bring in whatever food and drinks we want. Any suggestions?

What types of food does you and your FI like?

You could do a big Italian style dinner with a couple types of pasta, chicken parmesan, beef marsala, a fresh green salad, cocktail hour with italian meats, cheese, and olives and other antipasti.

Or maybe a delicious BBQ style reception with smoked rotisserie meat carving stations, a BBQ sauce buffet with different style sauces.  A macaroni and cheese bar with various toppings: bacon, chives, sour cream, ham, etc.  Sweet and zesty cole slaw made with shredded cabbage, slivers of apple, and golden raisins.  Golden cornbread with butter.

Or maybe you'd prefer something a bit more exotic. You could do an Asian style food theme with hors d'oeuvres including veggie and pork potstickers,  spring rolls, spicy braised short ribs, sushi rolls. You could then have a several course meal: won-ton soup, followed by lettuce salad with ginger dressing, stir-fry with a choice of proteins and either lo-mein or fried rice.

I could go on and on.  What do you and your FI like to eat?

My only suggestion would be to stay away from turkey (if that's the preferred main course choice amongst your friends and family during that time of year). Congrats on the engagement, welcome to TK, and happy planning! [:
