Very Cheap Wedding Reception Ideas

OK so I'll be getting married here within the next couple of months. We are going to the JP and would like a reception to follow either later that day or on another day.... Here is my dilemma.. I really don't want to go over board with flowers, deco, the invitation, gifts..  The reception will be held in my parents backyard (which is big enough for the amt of guest 10-13 couples..maybe).  We aren't exactly rich, and I'd like to spend only about $1,000 to $1,500 for everything. Is anyone in the same boat? or Has been? Any ideas for something so simple?  -- I don't care if the guest bring gifts or not, not sure on how to go about that either...Also, I'd like the reception invitations to be some what comical, but to the point of "we finally got married, come party with us"..lol but something better then that.. Any Ideas?

You could do a Backyard BBQ and just get some small decorations. It doesn't have to be anything too crazy...I think as long as you have your friends and family, then it will be fun!

A friend got married a few years ago, they had a very nice ceremony in her parents back yard. They did the reception inside/outside at her parents house. They had a friend "DJ" the pouch served as the dance floor. She had a cake table with a few glass vases with submerged single flowers and river rocks in each. Inside they had had the dinning room table set up with party trays (from costco I think) The wedding was in the summer and started at 7pm so it was after dinner time. They also did self serve beer and wine. It was very nice not tacky. There were not a lot of people. FI and I had a great time.

I wish NekonRayne was still on here--she had a really cute wedding at a Fort Worth park on a tight budget

Thanks ladies!  This is not going to be a normal/traditional wedding. Just us and the parents at the JP, then a small family get together (with a purpose as my mom says haha).  My profile says we're getting married on Jan 01, 2010, but its more then likely going to be in March or April now ;].  Haven't figured that out yet... I've decided to let my dad cook bbq pulled pork and ribs. Mom will be helping decorate tables and what not. Everything is starting to come together a bit better...  Thanks!
