A twist on "cake"...

So I was searching around trying to get ideas for our wedding cake since we have our consultation in two weeks. I came across this post (http://loveandalatte.blogspot.com/2009/11/let-them-eat-cake.html) So I sent a picture to my Mom. She came up with the idea to have indiviual ones for each guest then a small cake for pictures, etc. Opinions? Do you think it's a bad idea? Would you rather have cake instead?

I don't think it is a bad idea. There is no rule that you have to have a traditional wedding cake.

I have a friend who did this because she is gluten intolerant. They drizzled it with chocolate, put flowers on it similar to a real wedding cake's decorations, and it was beautiful. The guests loved it. They made a practice cake about a month or two before the wedding. It wouldnt hurt to practice making a couple if you choose to do this.

I think it's cute and and like the PP there is no rule that says you have to have cake.  Cupcakes and dessert bars are now making the rounds too.  I would recommend having them dressed up a little with icing or some sort of topping if you are doing individual ones.

personally i just really love cake so i'd prefer cake to anything else at a wedding.  but, this is a fun idea, especially if your wedding has a casual vibe to it.  if you have a super formal dinner, it might seem a little disjointed.

rk treats are so pliable, you could probably shape and decorate them however you want.  i love the idea of individual ones.  you could use 2 diff sized circle cutouts to make them look like mini wedding cakes, maybe even cover them in frosting totally so they look like cakes?   or just pipe a design onto them?

    have fun!

This is way late, but perhaps a useful comment for someone: marshmallows aren't vegetarian, so you may want to have cookies or something else for dessert as well if you have any vegetarians attending.
