Hors d'oeurves and pasta?

Hello!

So I'm having an hors d'oeurves reception in the afternoon and I'm going to do a deli platter, shrimp cocktail, meatballs, maybe a couple other things, but I was also thinking of maybe serving some sort of hot pasta dish? Would this make it dinner, or is there a way I can make it like an hors d'oeurves? This is just a thought I 've had recently. I don't have a budget for a big catered meal, but I would like my guests to be satisfied, and I'm looking for easy ways to keep them fed that I might be able to make at home.

I'm not sure I really know what I'm doing, I've been to 4 real weddings in the last 10 years, so I need all the help I can get. Thanks! :)

I don't think that makes it necessarily dinner, but as always, make sure everyone has a place at a table and a chair. Eating pasta is esp difficult to do standing up.

Make sure you make plenty of it.  Some guests may eat portions like it's a meal, not realizing it's not supposed to be.

If it were me, I'd put out a great big bowl of salad with it and call it dinner.

Yes, I would include pasta. It's cheap and fills people up. As you said, you don't want people going home hungry. As PP said, I would also include a salad. It can still be an hors d'oeurves reception with those two things included.

[QUOTE]What about doing something like giant ravioli or stuffed manicotti cut into servings that are smaller?

This.  I was going to suggest maybe fried ravioli?

Make sure that your venue allows home cooked food.  Many do not, for liability reasons.  Pasta shouldn't be expensive to have catered, if you need to.

My reception venue (hotel) is allowing me to bring in food, only because I work for the hotel company. :)

I was thinking I might be able to get a pasta dish catered for pretty cheap if I didn't want to make it. I will definitely make some salad, too. Thanks! :)
