We are having an evening wedding getting married at 7pm reception to start around 8pm , we were thinking about having a Nacho Bar for food , do you think that is enough ???? we will have cake & i hope the hall will let me also bring in an old fashion popcorn cart too  .... What do you think of that idea ?

Having a relatively light reception at 8 is fine. However, personally, I hate nachos, so I think maybe you should have at least one other food selection, even if you just offer some additional hors d'oeuvres options. If you want to stick with a southwest/Mexican theme, you could serve some tappas alongside the nacho bar or something.

Also, I'm not sure about the combination of nachos, popcorn, and cake. It seems a bit random. I think you're probably on the right track, but maybe just need to tweak the menu a bit.

ETA: Also, since your wedding is actually starting right at dinnertime (7 PM), you should probably consider saying something like "Appetizer Reception" or "Cocktail Reception" so your guests will know they might want to eat a little something ahead of time.

For a ceremony that starts at 7 pm, most people will be expecting a full meal - if you're planning for the nacho bar to substitute for a full meal (like some appetizer receptions do) then I think you need to make sure there's a lot of variety in terms of meats and toppings, and plenty of food.  I would probably also add a few other small dishes in your theme like PP suggested (mini empanadas, mini quesadillas, etc).

If you're not serving enough food to constitute a full meal, make that clear on your invitations.  I agree with PP, though, the combination of nachos, cake, and popcorn is a bit strange.  I think the popcorn cart is fun, just a little out of place.  Maybe if you have it as a late-night snack, so there is a lot of time between the popcorn and the nachos, it won't seem so odd?

I love nachos, but I agree that you should offer something else with it.  Why popcorn?  Spend money on margaritas--yum!  haha

Hmmm...I don't think there's anything wrong with nachos per se.   But I would make also consider doing bite sized quesadillas, maybe a taco bar, enchiladas or other things to make a full Mexican buffet out of it.  7 PM is dinner time and if people are getting ready, traveling from 6ish on, they'll be starving by the reception.

Well, I love it, but nachos and popcorn are seriously two of my favorite foods, LOL.  I don't think that nachos and popcorn are that weird of a combination, but I think that throwing some tortillas into the mix for people to have the option to make tacos, or having some quesadillas would be a good option.

<div>This is what I was thinking.  You have to take into consideration the fact that people will be busy getting ready and getting to the ceremony.  You need to feed them a meal, not just nachos.  LOVE the idea of other Mexican food and margaritas.  I would be super happy to be a guest at your reception!</div><div>

We are serving nachos as our late night snack because I am a nacho junkie but I agree with the other girls here.  I'd be looking for something else besides nachos and popcorn to fill me up, especially if you are serving alcohol.  You could think about adding soft shell tacos to the list, let your guests make themselves tacos and add some medican rice.  You didn't say if this was being catered in or you were bringing it in yourself, but if it is catered, ask if they have anything else they suggest to add.

But surely the caterer offers more options than just nachos?  If you can't still go with the Mexican theme, I would still add something to bulk up the menu a bit.

I could eat nachos everyday and I would love your wedding. And I see popcorn fitting in with a carnival or movie food theme. But that's a lot of... corn. I agree that you can do mini tacos, mini empinadas, mini quesadillas, maybe a mexican caesar salad or shots of gazpacho soup. Something additional for people to work with.

For the nacho bar, I see doing ground beef, steak, chicken, a variety of salsas, guacamole, sour cream, green onions, tomatoes, white onions, black olives, chopped cilantro, jalapeno peppers, sauteed onions and peppers, black beans, pinto beans...

I love nachos but I love popcorn more... and I love cake more than popcorn. So really, I think I would have a heart attack of happiness at your reception, however not ALL guests would feel this way.

1) I agree that popcorn and nachos don't fit together

2) I agree that you should have more options (even though it's 7-8pm people could still be expecting to get full on whatever you serve them)

3) Can I be invited? I don't even mind if I'm B-listed! Please? Man I am hungry...

I agree with this entirely. A Mexican buffet would be perfect and provide more options for everyone.
