Getting in Shape

So excited!

My college just opened up a new rec center and changed their policies so that all the rec areas and gyms and classes are included in tuition. Before it would cost $6 a day to go, therefore I have never worked out at school. I typically work out in my small work gym.

Anyways, I am really excited to try these classes. They have several interval classes, some weight classes and cycling classes. They also have zumba and step, but I'm not sure about that because I have literally no rhythm. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on what to do. Maybe I should just try everything?

I am also considering doing this "Learn to Row" outdoor class. It is two sessions, around 5 hours long, where you use machines and learn to row. Eventually, you get in a boat on the river and row! I think this sounds fun. It is $85 but would be a great experience. Anyways, any opinions or comments?

  • I highly recommend cycling classes, as well as interval and weight classes. I ADORE step, and you don't need very much rhythm in my opinion. Zumba, however. Very much an individual thing - I tried it once and HATED it - my hips are NOT loose, and I just didn't feel like I got much of a workout (probably because I wasn't doing the moves right). I also get embarrassed when we're supposed to shake our hips like mad. But I'm awkward,

I say you try everything once at some point - I'd just start with whatever works best with your schedule!

    Good luck and have fun!
  • Im jealous of the learn to row that would be awesome!  I've taken zumba and I loved it. I'm taking another class in the fall.  I thought it was fun and easy workout compared to my tri training.  Go for it!
  • I just joined my local YMCA. They have all sorts of classes I can take that wont interfere with school. I'm super excited too. I did Zumba and I really like it. I feel like its a good cardio work out. I think that what you put into it is what youll get out of it. The classes they offer are great b/c i get really bored working out and these are great they are an hour long and I feel better about myself already!
I would at least try what you can, you never know you may LOVE it!! GL  : )
