As for some advice, if you don't have time to exercise then you need to focus on your diet.  Weight loss is more than 80% diet.  Start using a free site like Sparkpeople or MyPlate through Livestrong.com to track your calories.  "Watching what you eat" is all well and good, but chances are you're eating more than you think you are/should be.

As for not having time to exercise, that's just something you have to make a priority.  Yes, I'd much rather come home from work and relax, but if I want to be healthy, I need to exercise, so I change into my gym clothes and head out.  There are many things that can be done for free (walking, running, body weight exercises) if you can't afford a gym membership.

  • First I think you have to stop making excuses for yourself. You can EASILY work out without having a membership to the gym.
    Here's a few low cost/free ideas:
     ~Check out your library's DVD collection....many carry workout DVD's
~ Get outside!!!! Get active, even if it's just a walk around the block.
~You obviously have access to the internet, google different at-home workouts. You'll be amazed with what you can do with just using your own body weight.

Exercise is PROVEN to help with stress. Try to fight the urge to be lazy...you'll feel much better in the end.
    You can do it!!!! :)

  • I super ditto what missy said about exercise relieving stress. I started working out to help my stress and anxiety and I cannot even begin to tell you how much better it makes me feel. I've also noticed if I DON'T exercise for a day or 2 I get very stressed.

you had it really easy but now is not the time to be thinking of the easy way out that you had and need to step up and do something else, get out of your routine and comfort zone that you were so used to, and its hard but the only way is to just do it cold turkey, meaning don't procrastinate and say you'll do it 2moro.

I have it super tough.  I have to run out in the heat outdoors.. but that is not the tough part.. the tough part is that when I want to do squats or sit ups inside, I can't because I have my toddlers toys everywhere and when her toys aren't there, she is there meaning she gets in my way and is a distraction, etc.  It is tough.  I would like to do some videos inside but my daughter and husband want to watch the tv so its really hard to work out when I want to work out.. I would have to do it like 9 pm at night.. so it's tough..

we only have one tv in the house

we only have a living room and a bedroom with barely enough room to work out

you don't have it too bad... you just need to start running/jogging/doing some videos... go to walmart and get some circuit training videos.. I have one by Jackie who is said on the box to be a personal trainer of celebritys.. I didn't get the hyped up Jillian Michael's the Shred bc this video was just as good a workout and I don't buy into all the "everyone's doing this video so I gotta do it too".. I'm sure it's a good video but it wasn't at walmart, so instead of doing no work out at all. I got something else..

No one can really tell you what to do.  You have to want to do it on your own and push yourself to go and do it.  Get out there and run and jog and just do it.  I started on Sunday cold turkey just went out and walked and jogged and did it again on monday and tuesday etc.  Once you get the courage and motivation to start, your more likely to continue

  • I bought the 30 day shred but I hate watching it, so I do a series of 50 jumping jacks, 25 push ups, various arm weights and 2-4 mins of sit ups and I do this a few times in front of the tv.  Just keep doing your circuits that you make up.  It is free and those jumping jacks get your heart rate up.

  • I know what you mean about being stressed and getting lazier. I just moved to Florida from California for my fiance's job, but I haven't been able to find a job myself...it's caused a lot of stress and some depression. I have definitely been there with that lazy feeling....it's hard to get motivated to exercise when you're mind is a million different places: how are we going to afford groceries? when am I going to get a job? etc. You just want to sit down and fester on the things that are stressing you.

Bottom line is you just have to MAKE yourself do it. I've always hated working out, but one day I just forced myself to get up and do it and quit the lazy cycle. Now, I find I am most relaxed and the least stressed when I am working out! If you don't have someone to work out with you, maybe your FH would be willing to get you kick started and help hold you accountable? Or maybe have you and a friend have a weekly accountability for working out?

Good luck...you'll get through this little slump

  • I bought the thirty day shred and love it. It only takes 20 minutes a day and costs $8. I was tight on money and time so it's been working for me. You do have to invest in some weights though so if you don't have some around than that is an additional cost. The girls in the video use three pound weights but you would have to use higher weights to get more significant results. I am also doing the 100 push up challenge which you can do while you watch your favorite TV show. It's one of the stickies at the top of the forum. Good luck!
  • A friend of mine just introduced me to zi xiu tang (http://zixiutangbeepollen.com/)
capsules and she's lost 8 lbs over the past month.  I started them two weeks ago along with running and have lost about an inch off my waist. It's supposedly works without exercising. The only thing is that you can't have any allergies to bees or bee pollen. I also use the sparkpeople website to help me stay motivated.

    Good luck =D
  • You don't need a gym membership. The other posters had great ideas but you could always just walk. It's free, it's easy, it requires nothing more than legs and shoes. Sure it might not burn 1,000 calories per workout but it's a great place to start and it will help your weight loss and overall health.
  • Thank you all so much i feel much more motivated! And i know how you feel Peony! i got three toddlers at home and in the way. I really need to just get up and do it! i dont need to sit around all day.I'll admitt i'm embarassed! (and yes my spelling is bad) buti need to ignor it and do something more... but i do have one more question.... will you guys help me keep motivated? i hate asking but i feel like i might need some friends!
  • It's really hard to motivate someone else.  The best way to get motivated is to just keep reading the boards.  When I see what some people are posting about what they are eating and exercising, I think to myself "Hey I should be doing that too"

I had a break from exercising over the weekend (other than some light walking)... but now it's Monday and time to really watch what I eat and exercise more because on the weekends I tend to eat more and exericise less b/c we go to the beach house every weekend and don't eat as good as we do during the week.

I guess what I am doing is just maintaining my weight .  I got "All Natural Pizza" in Ocean City, NJ which is better but it's still pizza and carby and during the week I don't eat carbs at dinner.  I had the small gelato which is said to be less fatty than regular ice cream, but it's still not a typical diet choice lol

I guess I gotta step it up more if I want to lose the 6-8 lbs I gained from my honeymoon.  It's reallly really hard and I will tell you that.  A lot of these other girls just make it seem so easy,  I really don't understand. but they have been working on it for a while and like they all say it doesn't happen overnight.  Also, it has to be a lifestyle choice.

If someone is cutting calories and working out too much, your body will want you to continue that or else if you don't you will gain ALL the weight back once you get back to your previous lifestyle. For example if someone were to go back to the five guys burgers and fries, and ice cream pizza cheese steaks all the time

That's why when you diet, you don't go to the extreme.  You eat the right amount of calories so your body doesn't go into starvation mode and want to hold on to everything you put into your body, which puts your weight loss efforts to a hault.

What I mean by a lifestyle choice is that when people lose all the weight and then go back to eating "regulary", they can't do that.  They have to continue to eat healhy and have those things they used to love only once in a while.  I haven't had a cheese steak or a five guys burger since probably last fall or so.  It's been a long time.

It's really hard to say no to certain things.  Last week it was someone's b-day and they had bagels in and I couldn't resist.  But then when I see the number on the scale, then that really motivates me to say no next time because all the working out and dieting I did that week I felt was for nothing because then I go and have the bagels and end up at sqaure one.

But know that any working out you do is definatley not for nothing and it always counts.  The working out I did made me more in shape and able to handle the workouts, and more limber and stretched etc so that when I do go and workout, I won't feel like I am so out of shape.  Etc.  So allow yourself the occasional treats (how sad I think a bagel is such a treat lol).  And work out and continue to eat right and you willl get there.

Just keep reading the new threads everyday.  The one's I find most motivating are the ones called Monday Accountability where everyone talks about what they are eating and exercising today.  It really helps when you see that all of these other girls are staying on track, then I can do it too.  If they are seeing the results from what they are eating and doing physically then it must be something to continue to do myself
