15-20 lbs and tone up in 5 months?

Hi everyone,

I am in the midst of planning a wedding for July 2010 and am starting to look at dresses. I don't really feel very good about myself, so the task is somewhat daunting. I want to enjoy buying amd wearing my dress. Do you think it is possible to lose 15-20 lbs before they start altering my dress? If so, what is the best way to do it? I am a teacher and exhausted most days. As a result, I RARELY work out or do any kind of extra physical activity in the evenings. I know it's a cop out, but I am being honest. My stmomach and my neck are my biggest trouble spots...seems that's where the weight goes the most. Are there any specific excercises I can do to lose the flab? Thanks for the ideas and support!

  • Unfortunately stomach exercises will not help you lose weight on your stomach - it will make your abs stronger, but you won't be able to see it under the layer of fat. The only thing you can do is to lose weight overall and hope that it comes off where you'd like it to. It's sad, but we don't have any control where we lose the weight from.

If you're diligent and willing to work out regularly, you could potentially drop 15-20lbs by June. Use sparkpeople.com or one of the other free websites out there to track your food (writing down what you eat gives you a FAR better chance of succeeding), and get into a regular workout routine. You'll want to start off fairly slow at first, maybe 30 minutes of cardio 4 times per week and 2 or 3 strength training sessions each week. For strength you could try the 30 day shred.. I know you're tired after work, and you can lose weight without exercise, but personally I would rather be thin and fit than thin and 'soft'..

And finally, keep coming back here for support. :) The ladies here are great when it comes to cheerleading, advice, and encouragement.. Good luck!

  • I'm getting married in July too, and so far since August I have laready lost 35 pounds, and want to lose 15 more, I have no doubts I will do it. I am drinking more water, and attempting weight watchers, I say attempting because I can't track my points all the time and go a day or 2 without tracking sometimes. 15-20 is not too hard in 5 months, especially if you really watch what you eat like PP said keep track of what you eat writing it down is the biggest curb of an appitite.
  • Here's a list of workouts you can do that don't require equipment and you can modify them as you need to. It's a combination of several types of excercises. I find it works for me when I can't get out to the gym. I have a wedding to be in in July as well.

If it's okay with the regulars we might could do a July2010/August2010 MWF thread to check in on each other??

  • I agree with all of the above posts, especially to track what you're eating because it'll make you more consciouse. I need to get better at doing that too! I know alot of the ladies on here use sparkpeople.com and love it. I have found that what works best for me is to do a work out this fun and engaging. For awhile I was going to the gym everyday, running on the treadmill & lifting weights. It wsa so repetivie and boring that eventually I just quit. Recently, I have been using workout videos and a few of the ones I LOVE are Yoga Booty Ballet & TurboJam. You can check them out here, if you've never heard of them before: https://extranet.securefreedom.com/MillionDollarBody/csShopping/ShoppingCart.asp?Cat=Fitness%20Program|Best%20Sellers

I hope you find something that you will be able to stick with. It's just going to take alittle bit of self-discipline and motivation to reach your goals!
