Getting in Shape

Can't Breathe and Very Bummed.....

In the beginning of May I set a goal of losing about 10 to 15 pounds by September. I started eating healthier and exercising more regularly. I lost 5 pounds and was able to exchange my wedding dress for a size smaller. Yay!  I was so motivated, so I got more exercise dvds for variety. Then I started having shortness of breath. I mean gasping for breath every minute or so while sitting here typing this.

So far I have had:
an EKG - Normal
Breathing Treatment - No difference
Antibiotics  -  No difference other then stomach cramps
Prednisone - No difference
Xanax -  No difference, well other then the whole not giving a sh*t

I went in for a chest x-ray last night and I am waiting on the results.  Has anyone had this happen to them?  I just needed to vent. My FI is scared enough about it and so is my family. And all I want to do is get back to the gym......I miss my workouts.

Oh man, that's nuts!  I was going to say stop asking internet strangers for advice and see a doctor, but you've clearly done that.

Are you normally affected by seasonal allergies?  Are there any other crazy irritants in your life now? (like dust from reno's or whatever)  Those are really the only things that both my breathing.

I hope it's nothing serious and that the doc's get it figured out, stat!

  • Have you ever had asthma?  I started having asthma last year and if I push myself too hard I get symptoms quickly. Though I would think if you've had all those tests done you probably saw a doctor already.
  • I was also going to suggest asthma.  I hope everything turns out well for you tho.  Keep us posted, hun!

Yeah, I have some seasonal allergies but they tend to be tree pollen and just bother my eyes, no running nose or anything.

I was wondering if I had asthma too. But, so far my Dr. hasn't mentioned it and I don't have a history. She said something out how it was taking me longer then it should to breathe out during the breathing tests.  I'm just getting frustrated. We are on week 3 now.

I'd say bring up asthma, just in case.

I had a bad case of the wheezy's almost two months ago and it was terrible trying to sleep, I can't even imagine that for 3 weeks!

  • i would definitely mention asthma (it may be seasonal)... and i hate to say it, but allergies can make you wheeze. i've dealt with seasonal allergies all my life, and this is the absolute worst year i've ever encountered, so maybe yours have changed as well.

regardless -- i hope this gets all straightened out! the only thing worse than having something wrong with you is having no idea what it is.

  • FYI- i've been on a couple different antibiotics in the past where you can't lay down or lounge within like an hour of taking them or you get a chest tightness/shortness of breath. That could very well be it. And prednisone has a zillion side effects so although I don't think that is one, it might be worth asking your Dr about.

The Antibiotics and prednisone were prescribed for the shortness of breath. It was just in case I had some sort of infection.

  • So the chest x-ray came back clear.  Now on to a pulmonary breathing test on the 15th. BLAH.
