That was pretty interesting but also, if you use some common sense, you don't have to know these "rules" because you're smart enough to know the rules without having to be told them.

Yeah... I'd say FB and other social networking sites can be a big factor in hiring decisions these days.

Heck I play internet detective on my friends BF's, etc.... even if their pages are private you can tell a lot about a person.

Yeah I think the bottom line is don't do anything your employer can see or find out about. Some people aren't really thinking when they vent about work online. My job has a contract that we aren't allowed to mention any project specifics to anyone in any form (media included). If I said I was working on *** project for*** client I would get terminated immediately.

Also, if you are looking for a new job, don't tell the perspective employer you are engaged. Either don't wear your e-ring or throw on your band too. A lot of places know that you'll need more time off and are most likely going to be distracted as the date comes closer. (just a thought)

Also they can assume that, more often than not, that babies are in your future.

The problem with not telling them you are engaged = When they find out you need time off for the wedding or other WR events, you can catch some serious flack for not being forthcoming.  We let a girl go after hiring her, then her asking for time off immediately.

You can negotiate vacation upfront without telling them you are getting married though. No?
  • edited December 2011
Yep :) But it can cause issues if you are asking off time for vendor meetings, showers, RD etc

I didn't discuss it until they offered me the job. Obviously they wanted you and they most likely won't retract the offer once its made.

Just as someone in HR, be as forthcoming as you can.  Waiting until the offer stage can really cause strain on the employee/employer relationship.  I know a couple Hiring Managers who rescinded offers because of things like this.

True... but I worked all of those things around my work schedule.  I didn't ask off. :)

    Whew, I'm glad I'm already married.  ;-)

Julie - I clicked her and she posted on the Spam Austin Wedding Vendor Thread.

Further, if you click her and scroll to below her proposal story... someone is totally cussing her out about TK.  Random.
