  • You can buy exercising bands at Walmart. Put them on your foot and a strap in each hand, push your leg out while the band is holding it back. I dont know if that makes sense. I had to do it in physical therapy when I had a bad wreck and it helped.

  • Take a day or two to rest it so you don't make it worse. Also, how long have you had your running shoes? It could be time to replace them.

  • I used to have knee troubles, and the culprit was my hip.  Definitely rest and make sure the pain fully subsides.  Maybe you have inflammation or tendonitis in your knee, so use an ice pack a couple times of day and see if that helps.  Also try to focus on strengthening your gluts and hip flexor muscles, because if they're weak they can wreck havoc on your knee.  If it doesn't go away, see a doctor and go to physical therapy.  There are things they can do to treat it.  Hope you feel better.
  • I haven't been able to run in about 6 weeks now.  I broke my toe and I keep reinjuring it.  My doctor recommended swimming.

Rest and see a doctor. Make sure you have no lasting injuries.  I know that sometimes my knees would hurt after running for days.  When you feel better, try cross training to prevent overuse injuries.
  • depending on what you did to your knee is depending on the type of stretching that you will need. consult with  your DR or call the nurse line. Always do a lot of stretching before and after and stay hydrated!

  • Very timely... I just went to the orthopedist last week for the same thing. I run a lot so I was afraid something might really be up but the xrays showed my knees were actually very healthy... just a bit of tendonitis. He said it would prob come and go since I run so much but he gave me some recommendations how to help when it does.

First,  stay off it a couple days. I kept running through the pain for a week or so before seeing the doctor (not smart, I know). When you start again, try using a heating pad before and take Aleve. You could also try a knee brace. Afterwards, ice your knee. Stretch as someone previously mentioned (after when you're warmed up) and try taking Glucosamine Chronditin. It helps build and strengthen your joints.

Good luck...hope your knee gets better :)
  • thank you so much everyone!  this is all very helpful.
