Boot camp and eating

Hey, I signed up for a bootcamp that starts tonight at 6 and was wondering when I should eat dinner. The bootcamp goes from 6-7 and with traffic and eveything I probably won't get home till 7:30-8. That's way later then when I usually have dinner. I was wondering if I ate my dinner at around 4 if that would be enough time for it to settle before getting my butt kicked. What do you think?

Re: Boot camp and eating

  • Personally, I would eat a snack around 4-5, and then eat a small dinner when I get home.  I would be starving after an hourlong boot camp class.
  • I agree with PP.. Small snack before ( lots of protein if you can) and small dinner afterwards.

  • If you eat dinner at 4:00, you won't really have time to digest before.  You will feel sick during your workout, and end up hungry later.  I would eat a snack, like an apple with peanut butter, or some pita bread with hummus before.  If you don't mind protein shakes, 1 of those an hour before will definitely keep you going.  Bring a light snack for the ride home from the gym which will keep you from eatting more than say chicken and veggies for dinner.

  • I've done three bootcamp sessions (so about 3 months worth) and one of them was in 105 degree (avg.) heat.  I think you should try to eat a relatively large meal for lunch (like noon or 1, whenever you eat lunch), eat something small that isn't hard on your stomach an hour or so before the class.  I found that an ounce of almonds worked well for me.  If I ate cheese or something with any sort of spiciness to it, I would end up feeling sick to my stomach.  I would eat a smaller dinner when I got home because i would be starving.  In the summer class I took, I would usually come home and eat a protein smoothie with lots of fruit and stuff in it because it was all I could stomach after the heat.  Good luck!  It's so much fun

  • I did the bootcamp at 5:30 before. I always ate a medium apple at aroudn 4:30 and then brought a protien shake to drink on the way home. After a shower and such I would eat something small like chicken breast and some veggies. Always worked for me, GL!
