Getting in Shape

i feel like im dying

I recently went on sp and started tracking my cals and discovered that I have to eat a lot more to loose weight so, this morning I actually got out of bed with enough time to eat a bowl of ceriel and packed TWO sandwiches instead on my usual one. I ate the one for lunch and split the other one in 1/2. I ate 1/2 2 hours before lunch and 1/2 2 hours after. Now I feel crazy sick and woozy like I haven't eaten all day and the fact that I feel like I'm dying is giving me a panic attack I almost want to go home. I sit in a chair all day so its not like I'm getting a workout here at work. I don't know if its my metabolizm finally kicking in that's making me feel like this or the fact that I'm a hyprochoncriac and knowing that I haven't been eating enough for some time and working out as much as I have been is making me feel like this when in fact I'm fine. Oh and I ate a protein bar last night too. I felt like crap yesturday and the day before too except when I was running, it was the only time I felt good.

  • WHOA! Slow down, take a deep breath. Maybe you're just coming down with something and it happens to coincide with your new calorie intake. I don't know how eating more could make you feel like that.
  • It is definitely true that you must eat enough to lose weight or your body will go into starvation mode. I am not sure how much you eat, but WHAT you eat also matters. I am also unsure of how you are feeling? Do you feel like you are starving? If so I can see why, it seems like you also aren't balancing your meals. An example of my day so far: Breakfast : oatmeal, 1 cup of trop50, coffee with cream and sugar, and a banana. Lunch: Luna Bar and a plum Snack: Go lean crackers with hummus, and a handful of almonds After all of this I worked out for 45 minutes. I am just starting to feel like a little dinner.
  • PP has a good point- are these the same things you would normally eat, just in larger quantities? You need a good balance of protein, fat, and healthy carbs.  I know when I make a sandwich for myself, it's very tasty and healthy but doesn't fill me up at all.  I prefer salads or cottage cheese with fruit, which I find much more filling.

Coco puffs is NOT a good cereal to eat if you are trying to get nutrients and lower sugar content in your diet. Go with a cereal like Special K, or even Cheerio's.
  • You're absolutely right I'm gonna go stock up on some of that good ceriel right now, cocco puffs is just what I happened to have in the house cause my fi loves that crap. Until now he was the only one who ate ceriel so i just bought whatever he wanted. Oh well, looks like he's gonna have to start eating healthier too :)
  • The best cereals for you are low in sugar and high in fiber- Shredded Wheat, Bran Flakes, Fiber one, Kashi Go Lean, etc. The fiber keeps you full longer. Coco Puffs may be fortified with vitamins but it's still not nutritious. Fat free cottage cheese is very good for you- it has protein and some calcium, and I find it to be very filling. As for your dinner, white rice isn't very good for you- again, brown rice has much more fiber and is way more nutritious.

I would suggest you be careful with what youre eating - it sounds like with cereal in the am, 2 sandwiches in the day, and whatever for dinner, you will end up getting a LOT of carbs. Too many carbs will not give you the effect you want in the long run. Just be mindful of that.
  • laimabean, This is meant with all due respect....From the posts I have read of yours it is obvious you need some solid  education on weight loss and healthy eating. We can not give you the education you  need on this board. This is not your fault. Most people don't realize the HUGE amount of knowledge it takes to lose weight. We all have the knowledge and still come here for ideas and support. Weight loss is a science based on how your body responds to food, and exercise. As the pp said is is a.  how much you eatb.  when you eat c.  what you eat d.  how much you exercise/what exercise you do/duration/intensity  Then put all the pieces together into a program.  The situation here is that you need to start from scratch and read books on healthy eating, learn how to read labels and make healthy choices.  Find out how many calories you need to sustain life, then figure out the defecit to lose weight. Just my personal opinion after being on lots of fad diets, I think Weight Watchers is an extremely sound program based on years of research and weight loss studies. This is what I would recommend for you. AND READ READ READ. WW educates you on how to choose foods, read labels, overcome obstacles, etc. You will probably do well to join a group, not just do the on line thing. I think the ideas and support you get from the group are extremely beneficial ~ I do wish you luck and I am willing to help however I can, but you need the base education. If you cannot afford weight watchers then Spark People has a huge amount of information on their website as well and it's free.PS: For tomorrow morning's breakfast try a low fat cottage cheese and a fresh fruit. (apple or orange) Snack: a hard boiled egg and a fresh fruit. Lunch: Tuna sandwich on whole wheat bread or pita with lettuce and tomatoe and a fruit or vegie..... Snack:  A cheese stick and a low fat yogurt. Dinner: a healthy protien (chicken, low fat beef, ground turkey burger) a vegie and a whole grain rice or sweet potatoe or regular potatoe, (small, the size of your fist) I bet you will feel a whole lot better eating these types of foods.
  • One more tip...look at ingredient lists on the foods you buy. Whole grain and whole wheat breads and pastas are better for you than white ones but you still need to check them, if they say "hydrogenated" anything on them, they are bad, as well as "high fructose corn syrup" or "bleached flour". Especially if any of those are the first 3 things listed. the ingredients list starts with the ingredient that is most in the product all the way down to the smallest amount. Hope this helps!I thought I knew a lot about what is good for you but now that I check the labels I realized my favorite yogurt (Yoplait light black cherry) has high fructose corn syrup as it's second ingredient. I know eat Activia light peach instead or unsweetened low fat greek yogurt. Also, a lot of breads that I thought were "good" for you, were just as bad as white and actually had bleached flour in them.

  • thanks a lot you guys! trying it for a month just to learn about it doesnt sound like a bad idea at all, actually 17/ mo doesnt sound bad at all I know my soon to be sis in law was on weight watchers and lost a lot
  • The whole thing about the std's etc is true. If the schools would teach more about nutrition and exercise, our country would not be so overweight! Good luck, Here's another tip on grocery shopping: shop on the outside isles of the store where the fresh foods are. Only buy whole wheat breads that list whole wheat a the FIRST ingredient, then keep reading for the bad stuff, like high fructose corn syrup stay away from that and it's in everything. Eat fresh real foods, not packaged foods.
