Idea - recipe exchange?

It seems like all of us eat a lot of different foods and we all seem interested in trying new things. What if we had a weekly or daily recipe exchange for different types of foods (one day could be edamame, next day could be eggs, following day could be peppers, etc.) so we can find out about foods some of us dont yet eat and how to prepare them.Does this sound good? How would we decide what food what day, I dunno. Should we just do a general healthy recipe exchange? Is this just another one of my half baked ideas? Suggestions?

Re: Idea - recipe exchange?

  • I really like this idea.  It seems that almost every day someone posts a random recipe question.  I don't know how to organize this.  Let me think about it. P.S.  What is edamame?

Ive actually never had it - its baby soy beans or something and I always see people raving about it. Id like to get ideas on how to prepare it!I like looking at recipes online, but i think its useful to get recipes from people who have tried it and enjoyed it.
  • I really like this idea.. What if we do a weekly general food exchange or daily..I dont make edamame so I wouldnt have a clue.. same with eggs.. but I could give lots of healthy recipes.

  • YES to the idea! I would love to both give and receive ideas/recipes. Mine would be all vegetarian or vegan, just FYI. And healthy!Edemame is delicious!!! Young soybeans boiled in water and salt. Pop them out of the pod and enjoy! A tasty healthy snake. I've heard they're good chocolate covered but haven't tried yet!

Nothing wrong with vegetarian or vegan. In my experience those foods are just as tasty and enjoyable!
  • Maybe we could get a list going of things we want to see and someone can keep track of the list and create a post every other day or once a week or something. Or.... we can do it by course (ex: one day would be favorite vegetable side dish, favorite hot entree, favorite appetizer, favorite non-veggie side dish, favorite dessert, favorite drink, etc).

  • I think it is a great idea! And FYI--in the frozen veggie section at grocery stores there are bags of edamame that are microwavable...and great...and cheap!  Throw them in the microwave for 5 minutes, lightly salt, and eat.  It is a good side dish or an awesome snack...

  • Oooh... or we could do some "Ingredient of the Week" thing and that week, we have a post about its health benefits, where to find it, how to pick a good one (ex: how to pick a good mango or whatever), and everone would post a favorite recipe using that ingredient. Then, the challenge would be to try a new recipe using that ingredient by the end of the week.

VitaLuna! I love that idea!! I think that would be the best way for us to actually learn about the food, how to make sure we buy good quality and prepare it. I vote for that!
  • Hello Ladies. I spent most of my time on the DW board, my wedding will be in Mexico. But I need more motivation that just my dog to get back into shape! I buy the edamame in the frozen section, boil them in water and add some salt. I usually don't use to much salt, but sometimes I become obsessed with salt so I use more. It usually takes about 10 minutes or so. If you are serving it, or just snacking you can take the pod, kind of bite the end to separate the pods and suck the beans out. I would recommend having an extra bowl near by for the pods! I am a vegetarian and eat so much of the same foods, I would love to see what other veggies are eating that is helping them stay on track!

  • I love this idea and I've been thinking about it all day and can't come up with one single plan on how to do it.  I vote for the food of the week.
