sick. exercise make up?

I was sick all of last week. I have an exercise routine that lasts from 45-90 mins (depending on the day). Since I missed a whole week if I double my excercise time this week does that make up for the lost week? Or would I just be over doing it?

Re: sick. exercise make up?

  • I wouldn't double up. If you were sick your body needed to rest and recover. If you get back into things and want to add in 10-15 extra minutes (if you feel up to it) go ahead, but I don't think potentially doing 3 hours of exercise will be a good approach. Besides, you probably won't be as productive and the workout could lead to fatigue and injury.
  • I wouldn't do it.  If anything, your body might still be fatigued from being sick for a week, and you'll need to ease back into exercising slowly. The last thing you want is to push yourself so hard that you either get sick again or injure yourself. Being healthy and fit isn't one day, one week, or one month.  It's not one meal or one workout.  It's a lifestyle.  You'll always hit bumps in the road (sickness, stress, etc). Don't worry about making up lost time, just make sure you get back on track, and back into your normal routine.

  • I would just write that week off and get back into your normal routine. Trying to make up that much time will do more harm than good - you could even get sick again, which wouldn't be any fun.
