Getting in Shape

Frustrated

I've been eating healthy all week, salads, fruits, veggies, etc Drinking lots of water and Doing a kickboxing and Body Pump class...and the scale hasn't budged!!!  All Week!  What am i doing wrong?

  • You should weigh yourself once a week at the same time.Be weary of 'salads' depending on where you get them fromthey can have a lot calories (more than expected).
  • A week is just the beginning.  Keep at it and be patient. Don't get discouraged.
  • Your body weight fluctuates on a daily basis, so weighing yourself daily is bunk.As pp mentioned, weigh yourself once a week at the same time.For me, that's Wednesday, before I get in the shower in the morning.  No clothes to trick the scale.Ditto on the salads, those things can be worse than a burger (Wendy's Chili salad anyone?  jeesh)

  • Just stick with it. I know it can be frustrating when you feel like you're working really hard and the scale doesn't show it. I've had weeks where I feel like I've done an awesome job and when I weigh myself I've gained. Remember, it's a process. It takes a while but it sounds like you're on the right path!
  • On the opposite end of the scale -- the salads you might be eating might not have enough nutrients in them. If you arent eating enough food, your body will go into starvation mode. You need to make sure you are eating enough because it sounds like your doing some intense work outs. Dont weigh in the day after a hard workout either beacuse your muscles coul dbe retaining water. One week, really is just a drop in the bucket. I didnt lose anything at first for a month, and I plateaued last month and didnt lose more than 1lb for an entire month. You just have to keep going and try not to worry about it. Even if you dont lose, youre still doing right by your body by eating right and being active.
  • I am thinking along the same line as Nebb.  You need to eat more than just salad.  You need to eat 3 servings of protien,3 servings of veggies and 3 fruits a day along with some starches and good fat.  Your body will kick into starvation mode and you won't lose anything.  Also drink plenty of water it helps your body metabolise fat.  Hang in there we all get frustrated.
  • Although it's not the outward encouragement that the scale can give you, think about how awesome you've done for the past week! Do you feel better? Do your clothes fit better? If it is a brand new thing it might take a while for the scale to change. Congrats on having a great week! Also, I would suggest making goals for exercising and eating, not just weight. It might not be as encouraging, but I think you're doing great!
  • I don't know when you started working out, so it could be a number of things... 1) if you just started, your body could be in shock going "what the heck!" and keeping all of its resources or 2) you've hit a plateau or 3) you think you're working it harder than you really are.Personally, I hate #3 :(As someone said before, be wary of salads, unless you make them yourself (and I'm a big proponent of making your own food rather than eating out). Fruits are known to be "good" for you, but they actually have a lot of sugar in them hidden in the form of fructose (which breaks down to our dear friend glucose, or "table sugar"). Fruits do have a lot of great components to them, you just don't want to eat nothing but fruit. Instead, I'd add in some more veggies or try making some healthy soups. If I were you, this next week I'd intensify my workout adding in weights (if you're not already doing them) and upping the cardio to at least three times a week. I'd reassess the situation then.
