Losing It with Jillian

I saw this on my FB newsfeed today from Jillian Michaels:

"What the Losing It families eat: I basically put them on the Master Your Metabolism Diet. Then I set the women's calories at 1200 intake and the men's cal intake at 1600 daily. I have the guys burning 4,500 calories a day and the women 3,500 calories a day."

That is why you don't see crazy results in real life. It's TV. It's not real. I'm sure that's counting calories you naturally burn throughout the day. But EESH. That is just absolute insanity.

  • Yeah I knew that they were working out a ton.  I think some people really need that drastic change tho....

  • yah but its not healthy to loose it that quickly...if u loose it more slowly you are more likely to keep it off.  That kind of lifestyle is not maintainable.  But the working on 3 times a week and eating right is.
  • what worries/upsets me is that when the show wraps, those are still real families. and without jillian yelling at them all the time, and making them keep up that crazy workout schedule, they're going to gain it back. it's sad. i would rather see less "dramatic" entertainment (if that counts) but know that she's teaching them real tools for a healthy lifestyle that they can maintain.

  • The Biggest Loser is like that too.  And the sad thing is that there is so much pressure to lose that they do other unhealthy things to their bodies.  Most BL cast members gain a significant amount of weight in the couple weeks following the last taping.  And now America thinks that you can lose 5-10 pounds in a week and it is healthy.  Then when they only lose 1 or 2 pounds (or go a week without losing any), they give up.  I used to watch the show but I can't watch anymore.

  • While I agree that the calorie intake is low, the calorie burn really isn't that crazy. These people weight a good amount so they are going to burn a lot more calories then someone of average weight. For instance I weight about 160 pounds at 5'7" and on a standard workout day burn 2800 calories. On days when I workout really hard I can burn 3200, so for a bigger woman to burn 3500 calories, I don't think that is too insane.

  • It is fine to lose that much weight when you are THAT unhealthy and have that much fat to lose.  Most of the weight they lose (on the Biggest Loser) in the first few weeks is just water weight anyway.  And clearly it is possible...  But of course they do have the people breaking them down and helping them figure out WHY they are as heavy as thet are and making them understand why they need to lose that weight.  It is a battle with schedules and fast food.  I know that I hate eating healthy and it is really tough for me but it is possible.

Weird. I have her book "Making the Cut" and it had a formula for me to calculate what my intake would be. Being a 23 year old 155 lb female, I should eat about 1600 calories a day. That's with some hardcore workouts though, and it's more about becoming really toned and fit than it is about dropping pounds. The plan is really for people who have 10 lbs or less to lose.
And if you should die before me, ask if you can take a friend. Pick a flower, close your eyes, and drift away- STP
