Getting in Shape

Comments you have heard recently that make you shake your head....

Today from my cubical neighbor “I don’t care if I am loosing inches overall, I only care if the scale goes down.”

Re: Comments you have heard recently that make you shake your head....

  • not weight related but still "Sunscreen gives you cancer"
  • Oh, this isn't a comment but everyday on the radio I hear about the Hollywood Cookie Diet ..... right ....
  • overheard at work.... "i know it's so frustrating, i just don't know why i'm not losing weight. oh and tell everyone, i brought brownies in - they're in the kitchen."

  • Jillian Michaels was quoted in a Yahoo article yesterday saying you can spot reduce belly fat.   I really hope that was a misprint and it was meant to say you CAN'T spot reduce belly fat.

The one about spot reducing doesn't even make sense. It's almost like it was two thoughts put into one.
  • People that say "I  don't know why I gain weight, I don't eat that much"

duh.  It's all about eating right and exercise too.

Not eating that much is not a lot to say.  Eating a small amount of junky food is not okay.  You can eat more food that is healthy and whole foods types and feel full longer, than eating a little bit of food that is lacking nutritional ingredients, while also getting the same amount of calories.

Also those people that say they don't eat much probably don't realize that if they aren't getting the right amount of calories, they are putting their bodies in starvation mode and having them hold on to every bit of food that they eat therefore hindering their weight loss efforts.

also yeah I hate how people are always concerned with a number on a scale.  The number changes all the time based on having just ate, or fluid consumption, or water weight etc.

Losing inches and having your clothes fit is way better

  • The same people who ask how I'm getting in shape are the ones who scrunch their face when they see me eating ground flax (in oatmeal), protein shakes and unsweetened tea.... and they're the first in line when there's free food, regardless of being hungry or not.
  • "hey, did you ever start those diet pills you bought?"
"no, Jay is gonna get me better ones."

    also--

    "hey, how's your new elliptical?"
"I haven't used it yet, it's too hard!"

  • @ miguelhilary - I hear that all the time!

    this morning i heard

'I did really push myself last year. You're right. I like the salmon and tailapia I just need to get better little snack plans. It will come thou. For now I will take it as it as and do what I'm doing.'

  • My co-worker:

"I've been eating salads at lunch just like you, it's not helping"
She orders her CHEF salad loaded with lunch meats and almost a block of cheese (i'm not kidding) and two sides of blue cheese dressing (still not kidding) to my garden salad with either a protein shake, grilled chicken or plain tuna - (brought from home not mixed with mayo) with light vinny dressing.

Nope... for some strange reason those salads aren't helping. I have a feeling the 4 cups of coffee that are almost white with cream aren't helping any either.

My other co-worker a few years ago when she started seeing a pricey nutritionist to lose weight:

"My nutritionist says she sees me losing 20 pounds in two months!" said while a chocolate bar was in one hand and chips eaten at lunch. She paid that nutritionist a lot of money for no reason, she didn't follow a thing on that plan.

  • My Boss "I burned 1000 calories! Working out and walking to work is paying of!"

Bosses Husband "Yeah did that all before work while others are driving to starbucks and drinking that many calories"  As I'm drinking a starbucks! little did he know it was black tea! I hate that a*** hole. Makes jabs at my weight everyday! But I just sit back and laugh to myself about his chub.

This sounds EXACTLY like my mom....I wonder if it's a generational thing? No matter how much I tell her the importance of EATING small, healthy meals throughout the day will actually make her lose weight, she renders back to just having one piece of junk. OR she will skip a meal because she knows she's going out for dinner later, thinking she can eat more that way. UGH!

  • haha! my mom too!
i will visit my mom at night and she'll be like "all i've had to eat today is stick of string cheese."

  • Dazed, I am totally with you on the sunscreen comment! On the forum for my calorie tracking site, a woman said that if you got skin cancer from sun exporsure it was because your body already had something wrong with it. She was also touting an 80/10/10 raw food diet that consisted mostly of massive amounts of mashed bananas.

two minutes later, to another male coworker

"Damn, the convenience store isn't open. I needed to pick up some Marlboro Lights since they're cheaper here than by my house"

    Seriously.

I'm no doctor, but wouldn't being sent home for chest pains be your first clue to QUIT SMOKING?!?!

    THIS!! Is upsetting!

I work on a heart floor so I hear this stuff pretty much all the time. Some of them complaining how they don't understand why they can't go have a cigarette! "Well Sir, you're on a heart floor and smoking is one of the main causes of heart problems!"

It's just like the diabetics I see or have worked with. I had a patient where she seemed so clueless why her sugar was almost 500 mg/dL! Her son said, "Well maybe it was that chocolate milkshake you had before you came in!?" Same with family members that sneak in foods that aren't on these people's diets!

  • There was a girl I worked with, she recently got fired, but she was diabetic and have a whole bunch of other health issues. We were talking about lunch and I mentioned how I was full and she commented on my size of my lunch. I asked her if she was full on her big lunch. She said, "My lunch was big?"

    Her lunch:
-Two big slices of Dominoes pizza with pepperoni
    - a doz. of buffalo chicken wings
    - a cup of soup that was loaded with cheese!

    Makes me want to vomit!
