Getting in Shape

P90X

Any comments? Anyone using this program?

Re: P90X

  • Tried to quite awhile ago.  Problem for me is that I don't have the time to devote 50-80 minutes seven days per week to this program.  I wish I had that kind of time, but I don't!  I also live on the 2nd floor of an older apartment building with a work-from-home family living underneath and, well, let's say it's impossible to do "snow tires" without making her light fixtures rattle LOL

So yeah, no P90X for me anymore.  I did do it before we moved and the person below me was exceptionally loud.  Then I felt no shame for jumping around upstairs for over an hour at a time. :)

  • as PP stated it can be time consuming.  It is also very demanding so it really depends on your fitness level.  Personally, there is no way I could do it.  The great thing about it is the muscle confusion, so it stops the plateau effect.

  • I love P90x! I did it for 30 days and it was amazing. I love 6 lbs and 2 inches! But like PP said, it does take a lot of time. I currently work 6 days a week and go to school full time. So, I had to give it a break because I was stressing out about not doing it! Sometimes I will pop in the yoga X DVD to help relax. I plan on starting it up again after this semester.

I didn't follow the mean plan because I have too many food restrictions. I just eat healthy and make sure enough.

Overall, the dvd's are entertaining and it's something different everyday. I highly recommend it. I had so many people cheering me on, it felt great. Can't wait to start it up again in 3 weeks!
  • My hubby does this as much as he can, and has been doing it for about 2 months now. He hasn't lost a lot of weight per-se, but I can definitely see the definition starting to show especially in his arms. It's a long workout, but it pretty worth it.

  • I'm doing a P90X/Chalean Extreme Hybrid.  I use the P90X for cardio, Chalean Extreme for weights.  P90X for weights was making me bulky in areas I didn't want to be. I've leaned out so far and feel great!

  • We did it from end of November-end February and loved it...it was very hard and near the end we were just mentally done, but we did it.  I only lost a few pounds, but my clothes definitely felt looser and I was definitely more toned.  FI lost 20 pounds.  I was more impressed when I went back to the gym and started running again...Tony Horton always says it will help your overall fitness more than anything...and it definitely did.  So if for nothing else we are going to do it again to be in better overall shape regardless of what my scale says...

I definitely recommend it.  And if possible...do it in the mornings...it was a struggle for me to get up and get used to working out early....but it became routine after awhile.

  • my FI is doing this now and he's on week 5 i believe and he's lost 14 lbs so far...so jealous! I tried to do one of the dvd's and im just not cut out for it.  it's really tough, but i wish i had the motivation/drive/overall strength to get thru it!
  • We are on week 9 and I love it (but hate it).  My fiance and I were in good shape before.  The kind of people who go to the gym five days a week and eat pretty healthy.  Now I can honestly say we are in the best shape of our lives.  I have lost 10 pounds and for someone my size that is alot.  I also have more deffinition and my overall fitness is better than ever.

The bottom line is that it is HARD and takes ALOT OF TIME.  I promise you that if you make the commitment to do the program as instructed, all the way through and watch what you eat you WILL see results.  Just be prepared to work harder than you ever have before.  In my opinion it's totally worth it.
  • I tried the P90X about a year ago and it definitely helped to kickstart a lot of good work out habits. Every work out since I finished has to be as intense as those work outs or I feel like I cheated! I'm actually getting ready to start it again. If you're worried about bulking up use less resistance. Go for repetition over the greater resistance it will help to minimize the growing of the muscle.
