Getting in Shape

Re: *

  • You should try a couple workouts if you can complete the pretest because he gives you different levels of each exercise to use depending on your ability . Make sure you do the whole program even the diet part. It all works together. I've never seen or really heard of Power 90 but if it's by the same person I'm sure it works too and may be a good starter to prepare you for P90x if you are unable to complete the pretest at this time.
  • P90X guy Tony Horton is very good about demonstrating alternative levels of intensity for all the exercises.  There is always one person using a fitness band rather than weights, and he emphasizes the importance of form and taking a break mid-set, or even pausing the DVD for a minute if you need to.  He'a super fit, but doesn't talk down to you if you're not in top shape.

Try P90X - I started with arms & shoulders - if you do half of the workout, fine.  If you start with lighter weights and work your way up, that's fine too.  It's a great workout.  I was really intimidated by it, but it isn't as scary as I thought once I got into it.

  • I'm with you on this one! I could be 15 pounds lighter if I'd started when I meant to. I'm not in the best shape at the moment but can get in shape fairly easily. I'm just diving right in to P90X because of what people have told me... there are different levels and if you can't do one, just keep going at a slower pace/with lighter weights and pause if you need to, and you'll work your way up fitness wise. Good luck with your exercises!!

  • I'm doing p90x... It's tough, but not impossible.  Just take breaks or don't finish the workout.  I haven't finished a plyometrics video yet, but I'm working my way up (a few minutes extra each time I do it until I get to the full hour).  I don't follow the program exactly... I do yoga on my own, so I'm not doing his yoga video and I think the chest/back video is way too much of the same exercises again and again.  So, I do shoulders and arms twice a week instead.  Even though I'm not following the exact program, I'm totally losing weight.  Just get started and do what you can, something is better than nothing!
  • I'm doing P90x. Juststarted this week, and I just do the best I can. I am also not following the diet, because I suck at diets and I know I can lose weight without one because I have before.

I'm doing P90X with my FI.  We're on week 4.  Its rough some days, but its do-able.  It does make it easier and more fun to do with someone else.  I was always active but I hadn't exercised in awhile prior to starting this.  So I'd recomment it.  Tony always mentions to do you best and forget the rest.
  • Power 90 was created for beginners who are new to working out and P90x was created as a workout for people to do once they completed Power 90.  I would say if you believe that you can push yourself to do p90x then try it,  but if you are not so sure then start with Power90.  You will still get awesome results. Power 90 has worked for so many people.    I have it at home and its a great workout.  I have been working out for awhile so to me it was easy and I decided to move on to Turbo Fire.
  • I have done P90X and I thought it was awesome. I did see results, but not much because I am already fit from being an athlete all my life. I am actually going to start it up again soon because I took the summer off to plan wedding, do summer school, and work. When the fall semester comes around I will be on a routine schedule so I can start back on it. I really love it!
