Alli Weight Loss Medication...New Warning!

Ladies,

I was reading one of the latest internal medicine journals and orlistat/xenical which is Alli has been charged by the FDA with cases of severe liver injury with hepatocellular necrosis or acute hepatic failure.  Pretty much your liver shuts down and you can no longer rid your body of its daily toxins.

The FDA wants Alli (the Over the Counter med that is 60mg) and the Prescription based Orlistat (120mg) to all contain warnings regarding this new information.

I just wanted you ladies to be aware...as a physician I will only prescribe this weight loss medication for those who are severely obese with its associated complications like hypertension, increased cholesterol, inability to safely increase exercise...situations where the health benefit...not just the asthetic benfit...outweighs these risks that are very serious.

Re: Alli Weight Loss Medication...New Warning!

  • Thanks for the new warning. I used to use this stuff but quit it and decided to go a more natural approach.
  • I remember hearing something about that on the news the other day! Eek!

  • Holy crap..... ya know, I was just telling someone the other day that  every weight-loss supplement that works winds up turning out to be dangerous.
Remember Ephedra?  I loved the stuff!  Sure it gave me mood swings so bad my friends thought I'd become bipolar but I WAS SKINNY, DAMMIT!!!
Seriously, if I hadn't had mood swings so bad I wouldn't have gone to a dr and learned how dangerous the medical community already knew the stuff to be.  This was a couple of years before the media started reporting about ephedra-related deaths and it was eventually banned.

The scary thing with this Orlistat is it doesn't sound like there are any warning signs before serious damage occurs.  Let's hope news of this really gets around before more people get really sick.

    Thanks for the heads up!

Thank you for posting this.  I've tucked it away in my bookmarks to bring out next time someone starts asking about it.
