Getting in Shape

It Works, Body Wraps?

Has anyone tried these wraps and had success with them?  I've seen them at several bridal shows that i've been at and wondered if any of you bee's have opinions on them. Supposidley, they get rid of all the toxins that make you loose inches.
 Just curious!

Re: It Works, Body Wraps?

  • I did one once, and they "work" in the sense that you lose water for however long it takes to gain it back.  For me, it was not worth the money and just a good sweaty workout could have done the same thing.  Others may feel differently about it, but that is my experience with it.

  • All they do is make you sweat. And you don't sweat "toxins," you sweat mostly water, sodium, and chloride, and to a lesser extent other minerals (remember C. Hopkins Diner?), lactate, and urea. If you're on drugs that are water soluble you can sweat out trace amounts of them too.

I don't understand why people think all these "toxins" are building up in their bodies floating around their circulatory system wreaking havoc, because they're not. For a healthy person, your liver and kidneys are perfectly capable of excreting anything your body needs to excrete on their own.

  • What is it with this board?  I in my post no where said that i was trying this wrap, or that I wanted to get rid of toxins.  I was just inquiring thoughts on it, because i had seen it at several of the bridal shows i've been to.  I track my food daily on the Daily Plate and i work out 5 days per week.  I'm not looking for an easy way out, i'm just wanting to know what all the hype is on the product.  I love this board for all the great advice from all the other brides you get on here, but i hate the fact  that everyone assumes and judges you as soon as you post.

We expressed our thoughts on it (that it's an easy way out, and nothing that hard work couldn't accomplish), and all the hype is that it's geared towards releasing 'toxins' but in reality, your body doesn't have that many in your system to begin with.

  • What is it with this board?  I in my post no where said that i was trying this wrap, or that I wanted to get rid of toxins. But the fact that you're asking if others have used it or had success with it implies that you're thinking about it and take the claims about getting rid of toxins seriously. If you weren't considering it then why would you even ask? Also, pointing out the information about the toxins and nothing else leads to the logical conclusion that if you used this it would be for the purpose you mentioned. I don't understand why you're getting pissy that people are giving you information about a product you asked about.

  • Ok, i get the point.  I guess i should have used a different word choice.  I was just wondering because i had seen it advertised so much lately at bridal shows.  I was simply adding a topic for discussion.
  • Bridget - I have actually done a body wrap before, I didn't sweat nor was I placed in a hot sauna or anything, I did relax all wrapped up in a room (that was room temperature) and I lost inches.  It's not a permanent solution by any means, but if you need a quick fix it will last for a couple days.
