Getting in Shape

Raw foodies?

So, my fiance & I are big into alternative health & finding better ways to care for our bodies.  I'm a nurse & had a patient the other day who looked much younger than his 80 years, and he attributed it to his raw food diet and alkaline water.  I've been doing the research the past few days and it's intriuing!  Anyone out there have experience or advice on this?  I'm going to make my first raw food breakfast shake now!

Re: Raw foodies?

  • I have trouble not splurging on things, let alone having a more restrictive diet (and I'm a vegetarian, too), but I do love some raw foods every now and then. I've been to a few "gourmet" raw restaurants. It's interesting, but definitely light-feeling.

I find it intriguing... but I feel like I can get a lot of the same benefits just keeping it organic.  I like a lot foods cooked, but there are ways to cook without adding a bunch of other things... aka: I like to steam my vegetables.

But I do love a lot of veggies and basically all fruits raw.  I would rather throw in a few steamed veggies and get some of the unique benefits from them than not eat them at all because I prefer them cooked.

But I am getting more and more into the raw food idea.

Since I'm super anemic, I can't do a strictly raw diet.  But there is a lot of evidence that contradicts the raw diet - so I go raw where I can, organic whenever I can afford it, and I try to limit things that are negative to my health (salt, trans fats, etc.)
  • I'm currently a vegan once I start me new job next month I'm going to try to go raw partially to lose weight partially because I think I might have Celiac's Disease and want to avoid gluten...

I planted Lettuce and Tomatoes out on my patio!
