It all depends on the parameters you use.

What activity level did you use for Livestrong?

  • I just posted a similar question below. Sparkpeople tells me 1200-1500 and live strong tells me 1700. I think I'm going to shoot for aprox 1500? I guess the only way to find out for sure is to find out exactly how many calories we are burning each day and go from there. (But I don't have the money for a body bugg at the moment...)

  • yeah me neither...I've been at about 1300 for a few months and I have been at a plateau and I work out quite a bit....I might jump it up to 1400-1500 and see how it goes :)

  • I have been doing 800 to 1000 calories a day and losing about 1/2 pound a day.
  • ripcirlgrl86-That seems REALLY low...not sure if I could do that...or how healthy that really is...

  • 800-1000 calories is WAY too low. You need at least 1200 calories a day for your body to operate sufficiently. I encourage you to up your calories so that in the long run your body doesn't crash and you will be more likely to maintain weight loss. :) Best of luck!

ripcirlgrl86 - that is dangerously low.  By eating that amount of calories for a sustained amount of time you will be doing incredible damage to your metabolism.  Unless you are less than 2 feet tall and under 40 lbs, that amount of calories is just too low.  Please, please, please, for the sake of your health, start eating more.

OP - I ran through the Fitness Pal set up to see what the questions were, and how it figures out the calories, and it's probably got a lot to do with what you enter for number and duration of workouts you plan for a week.  Livestrong doesn't  look at that, but expects you to track them.

My suggestion is to go with the MyPlate recommendations, and see how that goes for a few weeks.  If you're not losing any weight, then re-evaluate.

  • If you step up your cardio you won't have to worry about the difference between a few hundred calories.

Try to do an hour of cardio a day where you are sweating (running, dancing, fitness classes like zumba)... where your heart is pumping for a full hour.  Do that 5-7 times a week.  Find an activity you actually like and it will make it much easier.

Eat 6-8 smaller meals a day and try not to eat too late in the evening.  Lean meats, lots of veggies and some fruits.  Drink tons of water.

Constricting your caloric intake is not healthy.  What is healthy is exercising daily and eating healthier foods.
