Buffet reception question!!

Hello all, I am having a buffet reception i June and my caterer is asking if I want them to pre-set the tables with silverware? I guess the other option would be for people to grab thier own when they get thier plates. Which should I do...? Which have you done...? Thanks!

I am having a buffet table and the silveware and linens are going to be setup on the tables and the guests will just grab a plate off the buffet.
I think it's better this way, makes the tables look better and the guests have less to carry.

    I agree with pp.

I prefer silver ware to be set on the tables.   Less for the guests to carry and it looks nice on the table.

I had a buffet and the silverware was on the table.  I would vote for pre-setting.  Carrying a plate is enough.

    Yes, definitely a pre-setting.

Another vote for pre-setting!! It'll look nice and they don't have to carry it. I think people would appreciate that.

I vote pre-setting for the simple reason that I never remember all my silverware at a buffet.  "Oh, I need a soup spoon!" and then I have to fight back through the line or wait again just for a piece of silverware.  ;)

I am going against the grain on this one (but what's new?). I haven't set the details with my caterer, but I'm pretty sure we are not pre-setting the tables. But that is in large part because I'm fairly certain that the guests will be sitting at the reception tables for the ceremony, and I didn't want them to have a lot of stuff on the table to play with during the ceremony. But, I'm getting married at Lakewood Theater, and the ceremony and reception will be in the same room. Also, we're using heavy plastic, and while I have no problems with that, I don't want it sitting out on the tables. So, I guess that was a lot of words to say that, in your case, you should probably pre-set the tables. Smile

Yep, another vote for pre setting the table.  We're having a buffet and the silverware will already be at the table.

We wanted to pre-set everything but we didn't do it for whatever reason.  The guests had to pick up their plate and the napkin already filled with silverware.

I vote for pre-setting.  My mom has to get my dad's plate because of his disability and my FIL usually has to get MIL due to her disability.  Their hands are usually full enough as it is.  If you have some elderly guests then presetting would make things easier on them.
