Getting in Shape

Eat Clean "Stripped" plan WORKS!

So I have less than 2 months before my wedding so I wanted to start to really watch what I eat and start really working out. I am usually training for marathons but with this crazy year of planning a wedding, buying a house (that we are getting 9 days before our wedding) teaching AP and working a ton of extra work, I haven't been running as much. So I heard about this "lose the last 10 pounds in 28 days" diet and figured I would try it. I don't have a ton to lose, but really didn't watch enough in the winter and just didn't feel in wedding/honeymoon shape.

IT WORKS and sooo well! Its low carb, which as a runner I am not used to, but I am not hungry, feel a lot better, and I have lost 9 pounds in 12 days so far! Now I am worried I still have over 50 days until the wedding and that I have to stay super strict until then, but its such a good feeling to see the pounds go away so fast. Now I am going to start training for a marathon in October, so that should help.

So moral to this story: If you can stay super disciplined, try it!

Diet is NO processed food whatsoever (nothing in a bottle) and pairing carbs/protein together for snacks and meals. Only lean meat/fish, vegi at every meal, lots of egg whites, no cheese/dairy/sauces/butters/alcohol. She has a bunch of meals plans to follow but I don't have time to cook each meal so I just stuck to what was easy in the plan and ate that almost every day.

It is derfinitely worth trying out.

  • Is that Denise Austin's plan/book?

  • Good for you for losing all that weight! All the foods you describe are what I eat now. Haven't started a huge diet plan yet but I still have plenty of time

Just a note: most people on low-carb diet see a big initial weight loss. Unfortunately, it's just water weight, not true weight loss, and it's due to depletion of muscle glycogen. (Each glycogen molecule is bound to 3 (I think?) water molecules, so when you lose the glycogen, you lose the water.) I would also be hesistant to train for marathons with depleted glycogen stores--one of the major goals of a weekly long run is to train yourself to increase your glycogen stores and to use them as fuel.

And eventually, it's actual muscle and tissue being broken down to feed your starving brain. Super low carb for an extended period of time is seriously dangerous and not a long-term solution to weight loss. Guess what happens when you start giving your body back the fuel it needs....it all comes back.

  • I just ordered this book - the Tosca Reno one, right? I've been "eating clean" for several years now. I'd like to lose around 10 lbs. before the wedding, but I'm not getting married until October. After reading your post, I'll probably just continue my normal eating habits (I still do the mini meals), until I get closer. Then I'll do the lower-carb (or is it actually carb-cycling?) version. Thanks for the post!

  • The diet is not "super low carb" it is just good carbs and no waste. You are eating 6 "carbs" a day and 6 proteins a day. It is just no breads and pastas. Definitely NOT something to do long term but great to get over plateaus and get those last 10 off. You don't gain it right back, because its the last pounds and not just a easy way to diet. And it works!
