Getting in Shape

Feeling fat!

I am planning my wedding for October 2011 and I know it is over a year away, but the stress is already to much.  And I am one of those that eats when I am stressed.  What can I do to release this stress without overeating!!

Re: Feeling fat!

  • Run!  Lol, it'll take care of your stress and help your body at the same time.  The times when I'm least stressed are right when I finish a run and I'm totally exhausted.  Blasting music in my car also helps me, but obviously doesn't have the same body benefits ;)
  • Take up a new activity -- something that gets you moving without making you groan about doing it. It's also nice if it's something you and your FI can do together.

    Some good ideas:
biking, tennis, dance, volleyball, hiking,....there are so many ways to exercise besides working out!

  • Honestly working out helps relieve my stress and take my mind off of things. Or stash some fruit around, something healthy. :)
  • Hi Lauren, it's definitely easy to overeat when you're feeling stressed out. It helps to get rid of any junk food from your house. That way, when you're feeling a moment of weakness, there're no Doritos to attack.

Also, if I want to emotionally overeat, I do something else that I LOVE to do, like shopping or getting a manicure, or walking my dogs with a friend. It usually works to take my mind off stress. Good luck!

  • Hello! I am also planning an October 2011 wedding!! :) I'm also finishing up my last year of grad school (soooo stressful), so let me share my plan for this year.
First off, I have stopped buying all junk food, it just doesn't exist in my apartment. So when I do get the urge to snack at least I'm forced to eat something healthier like fruit or even a bowl of cereal.
Second, I have my meals planned out for the entire week, it can get tedious but it has helped me eat A LOT healthier. (womens health magazine has some good recipes)

Third, do some type of exercise everyday. There is no way I'll be able to keep up my current exercise routine. So I intend to do Jillian MIchales 30 DS or 20 minutes of pilates every day. Exercise also helps relieve stress because of the release of endorphins.
And when all else fails - laughing always makes me feel less stressed - I suggest going to youtube and watching the Old Spice commercials, they get me EVERY time!!!
    Good luck!

  • I completely understand how you feel.... My wedding is October 2011 too!! :) I have a 1 year old and I'm still trying to lose the baby weight, but it's hard when you have 45 ba-gillion things to do a day...
I got into a great workout routine for a while and now it's been hard to get back on track.... What I've always told myself is: "it's not how many pounds you lose...it's all about how your clothes fit and how you feel in your own skin."
As long as your dress can give the optical illusion that your body looks amazing, then why stress?? I guarantee you that on your wedding day, your man will be standing at the end of that aisle and thinking to himself how absolutely gorgeous you look!!
I'm starting to get back on track this week to get in shape so I can purchase my dress....trust me...if I can do it i KNOW you can too!!!
    Good Luck and Stay Motivated!!!!

  • Definitely do something active-that you like. Try a bunch of new stuff. Yoga, Hot Yoga, Biking, Step Class, etc. I am right now in LOVE with Zumba. I go to a class rather than doing it at home. I like being surrounded by other women who are all having fun.

Another thing that helps me to get motivated/keep motivated is to everyday write out one thing you want to accomplish or one goal for weight loss. Even something silly-like having thin fingers, or no cankles...

Anything besides a number or thinking about how much you want to lose. Good Luck!

Find something fun to do so you can take your mind off of wanting to eat... i.e. walking with friends, working out, shopping, etc.

Rethinking the meals helps too.  Determine how hungry you are.  I learned that if you feel that you are hungry or have an uncomfortable feeling, try drinking a glass of water; sometimes feeling hungry can be the same feeling as being thirsty.

Also remind yourself why you want to lose the weight. Is it worth it? Most of the time, the answer will be no.

    Good luck!
