Sugar on MyPlate & fruit...

Hi everyone,   I started using My Plate because I love the break down it gives you.  I know the sugar limit is 29 grams a day for a woman, however I am getting 45-55 grams or so.   First off, it all comes from fruit and vegetables.  I do not eat any processed foods or any soft drinks.  I also make sure that the things I eat do not contain "added" sugar.    So  my question is  - should I limit my fruit and vegetable intake to ensure that I am only getting 29 grams of sugar?    I would think that such foods are good for you, but I do not want to exceed my sugar level.   Also,my main source of fruits are  blueberries and blackberries - and I know carrots have a higher sugar count than most other vegetables, which I have as a snack often.   Any advice would be appreciated!
I am mostly a lurker, and really love all the advice you girls give!
Thank you in advance

If you hover over Recommended Daily Allowance for sugar on MyPlate, this comes up:

Note-there is no recommended daily allowance for Sugar.  Experts advise a maximum of 40g refined sugar for every 2000 calories consumed.

So, that 29g it's giving you as your limit is really just for refined sugar.  Sugars that comes from fruits and vegetables don't fall under that umbrella.

While that doesn't necessarily mean you have free reign to eat as much sugary fruit as you can, it does mean that going over that 29g is fine.

And yes, while carrots may be high in dietary sugar, they're PACKED with nutrients, so, they're good!

  • Thank you Raynes!  I really appreciate it!  I didn't want to cut back on my carrots or berries!
