Getting in Shape

Losing it with Jillian

Has anyone been watching Losing it with Jillian?  I can't believe the last woman lost 74 pounds in 8 weeks!!!  I couldn't believe it!!  And I wish I knew what they were doing.  Still...that's ALOT of weight to lose in such a short amount of time.  Any thoughts on this?

Re: Losing it with Jillian

  • 1st off im new here so my name is Jenni and i just started a new diet 2 weeks ago,I got married last Sept and have gained a few since then so im looking to get back into shape.

i think when you lose the weight that fast that you are more prone to gain what you lost plus alot more, and i also dont think it could be that healthy for you.
  • I agree with Jenni. I like watching the show. But, come on. That's not realistic.

  • I love watching the show and seeing the results.  But, that is averaging 9.5 lbs a week.  It's only healthy to lose 3 lbs a  week.  I do think that the person will gain the weight back.

  • I know I did the math too!!  I couldn't believe it was 9.5 pounds!  I am lucky to lose 1 pound a week.  It is so HARD!  I thought on the biggest loser than since the food was already provided for them....then I could understand it better.  But these folks are at home!  I find it almost discouraging for me!  :(

  • I'm very surprised too. However, she started at 300 and they you lose more when you're heavier. However, that's better than a lot of biggest loser contestants! Plus, she didn't seem to be on track when Jill left. Maybe that was just the editting on NBC's part.

Don't knock yourselves and compare. Jillian gave them a real strict diet and exercise program that they followed. I'm sure she has tricks up her sleeve that allow fast weight loss.

  • Lilou, try not to be discouraged. If the show focuses on real, normal weight loss, it would be terribly boring. Healthy weight loss is a slowwww process most often. 1-2 pounds per week is healthy and sustainable. For example, your wedding is in about 10 weeks. So if you're diligent, you can lose in between 10-20 pounds and expect to keep it off. Try to stay motivated.

  • I have watched the show once and though jillian was a total B. I mean I understand being tough and pushing people, but I just feel like she doesn't have to be so cruel about it.

On a side note about the weight loss, they are on crazy strict exercise programs and diets, that just aren't feasable and you can't stick to it when the lights and the cameras and trainers are all gone. I had a personal trainer before and was on a very strict diet and was working out 5 days a week 3 days twice. So of course when I stopped working out with him, there was no way I was going to keep up that kind of schedule. These types of shows set these people up for failure I think. If they don't learn how to lose weight in a maintainable way, how are they going to continue for more then 8 weeks before they get bored and frustrated?

    Just my two cents.

  • She updated her FB status as to why she screams. This is her take on the matter.

"When people give up I use fear (of me) to push them past old beliefs of failure into achievement. Once they've completed the workout they thought they couldn't do i become irrelevant & they're left w/ the accomplishment. That accomplishment... redefines their self image & their potential. Notice after I yell, they stop quitting & get better." - JM
  • Wow. You're friends with Jillian?

  • I feel the same way, losing that much weight that quickly is probably not healthy. That and if you really do lose it that fast, chance of you gaining it back are much higher. :( 1-2 lbs. a week is really reasonable, and healthy (but the numbers really vary per person).

My favorite ways to stay healthy ... shop the perimeter of the grocery store. Everything you need can be found there. Eat healthy, exercise, and most importantly, expect to get discouraged at times. If staying in shape was easy, everyone would be doing it. :) Stay committed, you can do it. :)
  • That lady lives in my town.  She is keeping the weight off, as are her girls.  They have changed their lifestyle by eating correctly and staying fit.  You go girls!!!  It has been alot of work but with Jillian's help and encouragement they have committed to that change.

  • That's interesting to know that you know them personally!  And I thought that too about the mom, who was alot heavier than her one daughter who only really needed to lose maybe 40 pounds.  And she lost 30 in those 8 weeks. I am glad that they are able to keep their weight off...as it is all about a lifestyle change.  All this processed food in this country is so bad for us!!!
