Getting in Shape

Weight Watchers?

Are any other brides to be doing WW, how far in advance did you get your dress? I am trying to figure out what to do as I plan on losing more weight.

Re: Weight Watchers?

  • I am doing WW, and it's definitely working. I lost 25 pounds with it, and i would highly recommend the program. I still want to lose 20 more pounds, but I'm proud of how far I've come.
You've got to be patient with the program, as you lose roughly 1 to 2 pounds a week (sometimes less), but it's the healthy and right way to do it. You actually keep off the weight because you don't deprive yourself of anything. It's a lifestyle, not a diet.
I'm getting married next September, and I plan on buying my dress in March. I have one more dress size to lose!

    Hope this helps. Good luck!
  • I've been doing Weight Watchers since about 2 months after I got engaged (10 months before the wedding). I've lost 51 lbs (I was at 48 lbs on the wedding day). I highly recommend it.

I would not recommend ordering your dress a size smaller. If you honestly think you will lose a LOT of weight, then wait to order for a while. If your wedding is coming up soon, then order it in your current size & then get it altered.
  • I've done WW in the past and starting it again online tomorrow.  Our wedding isn't until Novemer 2011, so I'm going to give myself a solid 9 months or so to get in shape.  I have a ways to go (would like to lose 50 to 100), but I'm waiting until 6 months before to get the dress.

FavoriteOne, you rock! Keep up the good work!

  • My fiance and I started WW together on 1/1/10. I've lost 25 pounds, and he's lost a little over 40. I ordered my dress in February in my size at the time, as I was told it's much easier to take in than let out. I was told it could be altered down 2 sizes, and that each size is 15-20 pounds. I've lost 15 pounds since buying the dress, and I'm hoping on 10 more before my fitting in September.

WW does work, and like others said, can be a slower way to lose, but it's much healthier than any "quick fix" you may find.

I started WW after I bought my dress in March for my Sept wedding.  I bought the dress in the size I was that day.  It is MUCH easier to take in than to let a dress out!!!  I have lost 20Ibs since March loosly doing WW and w/o exercising (I hate workingout).  As PP have said, WW is not a diet its a life change the healthier way.  Whenever you want to go shopping for your dress do it, but order it in the size you are that day.  Don't add on additional pressure to yourself if you buy the dress in a smaller size.  Be happy w/ whatever weight you lose by the wedding.  That's the approach I took.

    Happy Dress Hunting! :)

I'm doing WW.  I'm down about 7 pounds in 4 weeks.  I'm planning on dress shopping about 6 months before the wedding.

Keep in mind that it can take quite a few pounds to drop a dress size.  Since I'm tall, it takes about 30 lbs. for me to change a size.
  • Thanks everyone, I've been doing it for twelve weeks and have lost 20 pounds, I really love it, I think I am going to wait some to dress shop.

I joined WW online a few months back. I had hit my highest weight EVER and lost confidence in my ability to lose it on my own. Somehow I thought they'd make it MUCH easier than FitDay online (which is free, in case you haven't heard of it).

As it turned out, it was no less time consuming than FitDay. I also had LoseIt (also free) on my iPhone. The WW app was so slow and cumbersome that I just ended up using LoseIt.

Unless you're the kind of person who benefits from meetings, don't bother with WW. Use FitDay or Spark People. Both are free and just as easy. In fact, I found the whole points thing really confusing. Once I did some research about the points system, I was even more turned off to it because it's really too arbitrary.

I would suggest WW to someone like my aunt, who has always struggled with being overweight and sometimes obese, and has no interest whatsoever about learning how to eat better. A calories in/calories out type food log wouldn't do her much good because she'd still make poor nutritional choices. For most people who are aware of the benefits of veggies, whole grains, and lean protein, the issue is more a matter of accountability and keeping track of calories.

And don't forget cardio and weight lifting!!!
  • i joined weight watchers in feb. 09 and by sept. 09 i was down 43 lbs, going from a size 14/16 to a size 8/10. currently, i've put some weight back on..about 12-15 lbs, so i've just recently (as in this week..haha) gotten back into exercising 4-5 times and watching what i eat. i haven't been to a meeting in months but plan on returning next week. for me, it's an accountability thing...i feel i need someone to see my progress each week in order for me to keep up with it.

this is my second time on ww, first time was in college and i lost 26 lbs. gained it aaaaaalll back plus some, but this time i plan on keeping at it. i've got some time before my wedding (2 years) so i'm hoping to lose just another 30-35 lbs before then.

everyone keep up the good work! :)
