Training programs

Hello--

I am a lurker on this board and this is my first post.

I am a teacher and am finished school. With 42 days until my wedding I'd like to take my training to the next level. I've lost 13 pounds over the last year and I hope to drop around 5-10 more. I already workout 5-6 days a week for an hour or so, I do lots of different types, workout classes, tennis, running, racquetball etc.

I am looking for a Biggest Loser type workout... I think they workout 5-6 hours a day?? I have looked extensively online and I can't figure out what they are actually doing for that long! I want to train several hours a day, like an Olympic athlete, but I don't know where to start, or how to go about it.

Right now I'm just throwing stuff together, like run for an hour, lift and then bike for 2 hours. But I wonder if there is some kind of organized training program that anyone knows about???

TIA

I have spoken to a few people from the Biggest Loser, and what they do is basically hours or cardio, yoga, pilates, any exercise imaginable. Along with all that exercise they do a lot of icing! You got to figure how much they are working out that they need to rest their muscles at some point and ice themselves.

Are you planning on doings kind of regimen for forever? After you stop, your metabolism will slow down.

Sorry to put this blunt, but training this much before your wedding isn't realistic.

  • i don't know how great of shape you're in now, but 5-6 hours/day seems a little (well, a lot) excessive. my instincts tell me that, if not done right, that much working out may actually stall out your metabolism because there's no way you could eat enough to support your body during all of that activity. i can think of a million medical complications that could arise from that much working out without the proper support- and you don't want to be sick so close to your wedding! (i'm also guessing that's why you can't find info about such a workout.)

why not try high-intensity workouts, and some lifting, and just do two-a-days? your body will need a rest period.

  • While I appreciate the concern, I'm not really looking for opinions.

I am going to train either way, I just wondered if anyone had a mapped out program.
  • The stickies on this board make it very clear that the purpose of this forum is to promote healthy lifestyle changes for improved fitness and well-being. What you are proposing to do is very extreme and could be potentially detrimental to your health. The contestants on the Biggest Loser are participating in an extreme weight loss competition and are monitored at all times by a team of professionals to make sure they do not harm themselves.

I would start by talking to your doctor about what is a healthy weight and body fat percentage for your body and ask him/her for program recommendations.

It's funny how you get unwanted opinions when you post in a public forum, isn't it?

I'm with lobsterhug -- I don't think it's a good idea to follow such an extreme program without doctor supervision. Neither the BL contestants nor Olympic athletes do so without comprehensive, professional monitoring FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY.

Should you choose to proceed on your own, that's your choice, but it is VITAL that we make the dangers clear for the sake of anyone who might read this thread. It would be irresponsible to do otherwise.

That said, I do think you could look into the p90x "doubles" program, which amounts to several hours a day of pretty intense workouts.
