Getting in Shape

Saturday - New Members

Hey Ladies!
My name is Chelsea and I'm a pre-med student so I don't get to knot a lot (but it's my favorite distraction from studying! at this moment I should be studying ecology).
My senior year of high school I was a size 2, and it's just been doubling from then on... I'm currently wearing size 11 jeans, but I definitely have to do the "jean stretch lunges" for them to be comfortable...
Since I want to be a doctor, I feel like I would have no business lecturing people on being healthy, if I'm not healthy myself. And I FINALLY have a guy who deserves a hot chick - and he's stuck with puffy ole me.
We're not getting married until December 2012, so I have awhile... but I miss wearing cute clothes so much, and I want to go dress shopping as soon as possible because my grammy isn't doing so well (and I at least want her to be around for that).

I've been working out in the mornings before class for the last three months, but haven't managed to lose ANY weight! I have 2.5 months off of school starting May 1st, so that's when my hardcore work out plan kicks off!

Sorry this introduction ended up being so long! But I'd love to hear about any progress you girls have made in your goals! I could use a good success story!

  • Hi Chelsea, welcome to the boards!  Sometimes when you start working out you might not drop lbs initially but possibly losing inches, toning up and just overall treating your body well.  So keep up the good work and try not to get frustrated when the number on the scale isn't budging.

And I'm sure your FI thinks your a hot chick and certainly loves you as you are.  So keep working on your fitness for yourself and remember that you are a hottie already!

  • Welcome and congrats! And way to go with working out for the past 3 months. Stick with it!

Be sure to be measuring yourself each week along with weighing in - like PP said, you may not drop pounds initially, especially if you're doing strength training, as you would be adding muscle mass. So measuring yourself will be helpful so you can see your progress. I've had weeks where I felt like I worked my butt of, and the scale didn't move, but then I'd measure myself and had dropped an inch or so from most of my areas.

Also, diet plays a huge part in losing weight, so maybe try tracking what you eat for awhile if you don't already to see if that helps. I use Myfitnesspal.com, but there are several websites and programs out there for tracking food and exercise. It really helps keep me motivated and keeps me accountable.

Good luck with your goals! Smile

  • Welcome!

As the others said, what you eat is very important too.  Exercising is great for your health, but to drop the pounds you need to make sure you're eating the right amount.

Free sites like SparkPeople or Livestrong can help you figure out the right calorie range for your goals.
