Getting in Shape

I'm a slacker - HELP!

I have been saying for months that I want to lose some weight before the wedding - I've even tried for a while a couple times. It seems that eating is the only thing I can control right now, so I am eating EVERYTHING.
So the wedding is in 70 days (thank you Knot board). I am thinking I can safely lose 10 - 15 pounds, which would be OK!

Any ideas?

I am thining about going with all frozen dinners and lunches supplementing with salads and fruit - with a 100 cal English muffin with a little peanut butter and some fruit for breakfast. Thoughts?

How do I keep myself motivated?
My dress has a tie up back, so it will fit now or if I'm smaller OR bigger - so the dress is not motvation.

I just want to look as good as possible for my groom - AND in the pictures!

  • Hi!  You can do it.  Be careful with the frozen meals, though, since Lean Cuisine and the like have lots of sodium and are over-processed.  Can you cook ahead and make youself individual, healthy frozen meals?  The salads and fruit sound good.  What's your exercise plan?

  • Hello, fellow slacker!

Well, what motivates you in other aspects of your life?  ("If I get the tub cleaned today, I'll let myself sleep an hour later tomorrow", etc.).  Maybe use that.  Even food, within reason - an extra cookie (not an extra sleeve of them).

I'm motivated by list-making, having to account for myself & by looking better in my clothing.  Hence, while I'm doing Weight Watchers, I'm participating in the daily accountability threads and keeping a list of everything that goes in my mouth, every day.  It makes me feel good to know that I'm being proactive.

I'll admit I fell of the wagon - moved in with my bf (now FI), and it was easier to get take-out, etc.  So now I'm here, and having the accountability threads available is what I think will make it stick for me until it becomes a habit.

I wish you the best of luck!
  • Thanks!
I was walking on the treadmill during lunch until I started getting knee pain. I am thinking about going to get the Wii program that gets you dancing. I can do that before (maybe after work) as long as I dont hurt my knee.
I have been cooking and putting meals in small portions, but I kill myself at the grocery store, even with a list.
I LOVE to cook and eat! I need to make my self realize that food is a necessity and not a want.

  • I know what you mean, pennylp - I have to force myself to be a good girl at the supermarket.  I also need to eat more fruits.  I actually need to get to the grocery tonight or tomorrow to stock up, now that I think of it.
  • I am a slacker too, hey if we didn't slack sometime or too much of the time we wouldn't need to be on the get in shape board.  If your dress is not your motivator, let your pictures and honeymoon be.  I haven't gotten my dress yet, but since I am going for a ball gown I don't have to slim down that much, but I want to be in a teeny bikini on my honeymoon, so that has me working out.

If you wan to drop 15lbs quickly, I recommend Dr. Ian's Fat Smash.  You will likely lose about 20 in your time frame, but its really strict.  Some people need that structure to stay on track, if that's you go for it.  I have lost weight with it before.  I am now on WW online.  I have a year to reach my weight goal, so I'm not going to kill myself doing it.  Its just about moderation so its not too restrictive.  I try to make my own meals, but I do pick up the Smart Ones frozen meals from time to time, the three cheese ziti marinara is yummy

  • what worked for me is i found a workout i loved (turbo jam, so much fun!) and a workout that got me fast results (30 day shred) and i tried to workout once in the morning and once at night a few days a week but at the minimum, 3 times a week.  i also found low calorie substitutes for the things that i loved (some hamburger buns have lower calories than two pieces of bread).  i love hearty meals so it took some searching but i don't go hungry ... often :)  but there is lloyds shredded chicken or beef dripping in bar b q sause that i love.  pita pizza with marinara, motzerella and pepperoni is awesome.  tuna with low cal mayo is good too with red onions for a little bite.  i love chocolate after 10 pm, so i got some strawberries and bananas and some chocolate dipping sauce.  i get my chocolate and something good for me too.  i figure if i'm going to eat that late, it might as well be that!  i'm a huge slacker and seeing the results just made me want to work harder.  good luck!

  • One tip - forget the peanut butter. It's full of calories and will instantly help cut down your calorie intake if you cut it out.

  • Use jillian micheals 30 days shread, painful but works! its a dvd you can get it at walmart for around $10
