Article- "McVictim Syndrome"

This editorial was in the LA Times today, and I thought it was an interesting read. It's always tempting to blame other things/people, but this is a reminder that our health is in our own hands- and we have so many reasons to take it seriously!

Re: Article- "McVictim Syndrome"

  • That is really interesting. Something to consider! We can't keep blaming food companies or TV or whatever. You control what you put in your mouth, end of story!
  • I completely agree with the author.  Yes, some people are overweight due to thyroid issues or because of medications, but mostly it comes down to personal choices.  While I'd love to have a donut for breakfast, pizza and a milkshake for lunch, and mac and cheese for dinner every day, that just wouldn't be healthy, so I don't do that.  Krispy Kreme isn't forcing donuts down any throats.
  • I also agree with the author.  You are completely in control of what you choose to eat.  Like the pp said, there are certain things I would love to eat everyday, but know I shouldn't because its not healthy and would definitely make me gain weight.  No one forces me to eat anything I don't want to.

  • I also agree with the article.  Yes, it's harder now with all the fast food and drive thrus to make good choices, but it's still always our choice to eat what we do.  Just because there's more distractions doesn't change the bottom line-you have control of what you eat.

  • Yeah...I think it's a good reminder, especially when we see so many people come on the board wanting a quick fix or a way to un-do years of terrible eating- or don't know why they should, other than to look good in a wedding dress.
