Getting in Shape

So... dilemma...

Well, I started P90X and WW simultaneously back in February.  Before I started, I weighed about 155 at the doctor.  I decided to not use a number on the scale as a mark of progress, so I haven't been stepping onto one.  However, I went to the doctor again yesterday and saw that I weigh 145.  So that's 10 pounds down, which is pretty awesome, AND I know that I've gained a bunch of muscle mass because I am a hell of a lot stronger in every part of my body.  I'm really happy with the progress I've made, and I really do look quite a bit skinnier.

Now here's my problem.  I'm still not 100% satisfied with my shape.  I want my belly to be a bit flatter.  My ass has all but completely disappeared, which is sort of a bummer, lol.  But FI really really loves the way I look right now.  I would love to keep the curves that I have left (namely the boobs...), my legs look just fine, my arms are pretty toned... so now what? I know spot reducing isn't really possible.

So what's more important-- should I keep myself as-is to please the FI, or keep working on it to please myself? I am torn.

Re: So... dilemma...

  • Well, both.

For 1, he'll love you no matter what you look like.  I'm sure he'd also appreciate more ass.  2, you should try to work on loving you for what you are.  It may be that if you want to be firm you can't have an ass, who knows.

Keep up the type of exercise that you love/like to do.

While it's very true that you can't spot reduce, it's generally accepted that a clean diet low in processed "food" helps to decrease belly fat, so that's something to look into.

This is interesting, I hadn't ever heard that.  I definitely want to try to cut out processed food anyway, so I think I'll check this out.

And yeah, I sort of came to terms with my atypical body shape a couple of years ago.  I've always had a small butt and thighs, big boobs, and like a 1.4 legs-to-torso ratio (I am really disporportioned...) I can't use a certain model as what I want to look like, but I figured I'd just get to "my best"... and am just now realizing that "my best" is different than "FI's favorite." KWIM?

But... you're right anyway.  I know he'll love me and find me beautiful regardless.

  • Look into Clean Eating.  Tosca Reno's book The Eat Clean Diet: Recharged is a good one, and I love love love the Clean Eating magazines.

For exercises to help increase your glute strength/size, look into Bret Contreras, he's known as the "Glute Guy".

  • What is your alcohol consumption like and what do you drink? I notice if I have a few glasses of wine at the weekend.....okay okay sometimes a bottle, lol, that I really bloat up in the belly area but when I stop drinking for a few weeks I feel like every day my belly gets flatter and flatter....not sure if that helps?

  • hmm, sin, that's interesting.  now that i think of it, i do tend to get bloatier/thicker when i've been drinking more regularly, and slimmer when i take a couple weeks off.  i always stay within ww points and everything, so i didn't think it would be affecting me, but you might be right.

i'll give that a shot too.  but i do love me some beer :D

  • True what PP said about FI loving you no matter what you look like.  Keep that "loving yourself" and being happy with yourself now in mind but keep doing what you want if that is working out.  I promise FI will think you look amazing even if you tone up, lose more etc.

  • Mandk9, we're built the same! I'm top-heavy with a short torso and no butt at all. Plus you love beer. All of these things make you awesome.
  • Also- drink a ton of water!!!!!
  • Hahaha thanks arwo!! I think that means you're awesome, too :)

P.S. WHY DOES YOUR HUSBAND NOT HAVE A HEAD?

I ate it. I got hungry after saying all those vows. THIS IS WHY YOU NEED TO REMEMBER TO EAT BEFORE THE WEDDING.
  • Lol. I will definitely remember that, because I am a vegetarian. I don't eat heads.

So... you're top heavy, and you're a runner-- what kind of sports bra do you wear? I have yet to find one that is supportive for cardio, and it is a total PITA.  Any recs?

  • Well, kinda. I wear the "Athena" bra that used to be sold at TitleNine, but they don't sell it anymore I think. Still, they have a big selection there and they have a NEW bra called the Athena that I might try once I wear out my current bras. I would just look aroud the Bounce site in general:

    http://www.shopbounce.com/home.do

Generally, I like the back-close style rather than the pullover style, since I have a narrow-ish torso and big cup size.
  • Re: big boobs and sports bras, I've got the Moving Comfort Gracie, and while I looooove it's ability to keep my 34 FFs in place, the zip up part is less than awesome.  The Moving Comfort Fiona is supposed to be a good one, but the store I was shopping at didn't have any that would fit, and well, that's the kind of thing I need to try on in the store.

I've also heard good things about the Lululemon Ta Ta Tamer.

  • The Athena bra I mentioned above is a Moving Comfort bra as well; I don't always know the "model" name because T9 sometimes sells them with a different name. Title Nine (to which I linked above) has a lot of Moving Comfort bras, and it seems like they are well-liked.
  • Thanks for the tips, ladies, I will definitely look into those :)
