Getting in Shape

More energizing breakfast?

I woke up early to exercise today, and now my energy is flagging. I'm trying to keep my eyes open at work.

Here was my breakfast:
Pre-workout - fiber one bar
Post-workout - hard boiled egg white, 3 slices canadian bacon, 1/2 c oatmeal w/1/2 c frozen berries & 1/2 c almond milk

Any suggestions on a more energizing breakfast?

  • I honestly love love love my morning smoothie.  It has calcium, potassium, protein and it's super yummy.  And I can take it in the car with me on the way to school.

Recipe (I weigh everything, because it's harder to cheat than measuring)

    160 g skim milk (2/3 cup)
    85 g frozen banana (a smallish banana)
15 g (half scoop) chocolate protein powder
6 g fat free sugar free chocolate pudding mix (bad I know, but delicious)
    15 g (1 Tbsp) natural PB
    a little water-probably 1/4 c

blend.  Then add ice to make colder and thicker.  Super delicious.

  • I really like a scrambled egg sandwich on whole grain bread with some hot sauce.  The smoothie suggestion is excellent as well.

  • To give full credit, it is adapted from Raynes' recipe.  I originally made it with half of a Fiber One shake (which is super duper delicious) but they're pricey.  The extra fiber and creaminess from the shake was definitely a plus though.

  • At the risk of being (very) obvious, why not add some caffeine?  Black coffee or green tea are perfectly healthy as long as you don't overdo it.

  • Honestly Favorite, that breakfast sounds really good.  Well balanced and enough calories to keep you going.  What kind of oatmeal are you using? If it's instant, switch to steel cut or old fashioned.

Other than that, I don't have much to suggest.  Are you getting enough sleep?

  • I think it was the fact that I got up early to exercise, when I normally do right before dinner.

And I didn't get a chance to grab any caffeine before work.
