Hello, ladies I guess I'm new to this board!
I lurk occasionally on here, but I've never posted because I haven't been fully commited to my own healthy lifestyle recently...
I just started going to the gym a little over a year ago. I found a gym that I love, but my attendance has been... sporadic at best

About 2 months ago I started getting up early (5:30/6am) to go to the gym before work which was going REALLY well. I had tons of energy for the rest of the day! And I felt great knowing I was being so productive with my mornings! I worked myself up to an hour on the power elliptical. I did that early morning Monday-Friday and later morning on Saturdays.
Then about 3 times a week after work, I'd try to fit in some weight lifting as well on the machines. I'm hoping to try out yoga for one of those days soon!
But then I went on vacation and got out of the habit

but I really want to get back to where I was and get even better.
While I did notice a significant difference in my energy level (and even my mood), I didn't notice anything different in my body after doing that for a month. Is that normal?
I'm also trying to eat healthier- but I'll admit that's my weakness. I have tons of yummy, healthy recipes but I'm usually too tired after work to eat them. Also, I go out for lunch at work so that makes it tricky as well. I go with my grandfather, so I can't really bow out of it either.
My family has lots of terrible snacks that they like in the house, which is hard too. I know that ultimately it just comes down to MY willpower, but it's hard!
I'm not engaged right now, so I don't really have any particular "goal" to work towards. I would like to lose some weight (about 20 lbs would be fantastic!), but I'm not overweight (I'm getting closer to it, but I'm not there) and I'd really like to tone up and just be healthier.
So a couple questions to finish off with:
1) does anyone have suggestions on better eating? I do try to track my food intake already.
2) how much exercise is too much? I've had friends tell me that I'm doing too much, and I really don't want to hurt my body. I haven't had any problems with it (yet).
Thanks!
