Getting in Shape

Spin

So I am trying to do HIIT, but do not have much experience with it. I started doing it once a week on the treadmill alternating walking at 4.2 and running and 7.5-7.7 for 30 minutes. I also spin once or twice a week. Is that considered HIIT when the instructor does intervals? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Re: Spin

  • i do not know what HIIT means but I do know it is a great idea to vary your workouts.  my personal trainer told me to do spin once or twice a week with mixed intervals on the treadmill the other days out of the week. he also told me to do weights twice a week to get in shape.  I was one of those die hard spin class people who did spin 4 times a week for years but never noticed my body getting more fit until I dropped down to two classes a week and started doing an interval treadmill workout.
  • I tend to count it as HIIT when we do a lot of sprints.  The instructor usually talks about the benefits of getting the heartrate up and back down quickly, which is the same as HIIT.  Unfortunately, its hit or miss if the instructor is going to do a lot of sprints or focus more on climbs.  So I don't count on it for my weekly HIIT in place of treadmill. Make sense?
