Getting in Shape

Kinda a dumb question, but....

Backstory: I took dance classes for 15 years and it made it really easy for me to stay in shape. I had classes about 6-7 hours a week and never had to watch my waist line since the classes did it all for me! I stopped dancing after I graduated HS (back in '08) and have noticed that my lack of exercise and eating habits (which actually haven't changed much since I stopped dancing) have caused me to, ah, lose my figure.

I figure I only have to lose about 2-3 pounds - I'm not really trying to lose weight. I'm more about toning up, getting my abs back and all. I've been having trouble getting into a routine so I borrowed my mom's Jillian Michaels DVD the other day. They talk a lot about how we're working the chest area and such and I noticed that the women in the video had small breasts....

If I do that sort of exercise regularly (say, 4-5 days a week) will I actually go down in cup size? I realize this sounds really stupid, but I'm worried!

  • No, exercising a particular area won't make it smaller. You can't "spot reduce." In fact, building up the muscles under your breasts may make your breasts appear larger--however, you'd REALLY have to build a lot of muscle for that to happen.

Here's the thing though: the women on those types of videos generally have small breasts because they have very little body fat. Since breast tissue is mainly fat, losing fat in general may decrease your cup size. Where you lose fat is determined mostly by your genes--everybody loses weight differently. (I wish I would lose weight from my chest, actually--I hate lugging these stupid things around!)

<div>I like the weight/body type I've been at while I was dancing and I'm pretty sure my breasts haven't grown since I stopped...So I guess the work out won't make my breasts smaller?

Haha, I'm a 32DD and sometimes they drive me crazy! It's rough finding bras/clothes sometimes, but I've kinda grown fond of them! XD</div><div>
</div><div>Thanks for the response and not making me feel any dumber than I already feel for asking such a question!</div>

  • No problem--and I'm a 32DD too. We're boob twins!
  • Big boobs are the suck.

As awro said, the only way your boobs will really get smaller is if you lose a lot of fat.

The only sure-fire way to look like someone else is to, well, be them, or at least have their parents!

  • I danced all through high school too and as soon as I went to college and stopped having those 2 hour a day practices/rehearsals, I ballooned!! I went from 118 to 155. When I lost 25 lbs, I definitely lost a cup size. But it doesn't sound like you're trying to lose that much weight. I went from a C to a barely existent B. If any of you want to share your DD's with me, I'd be willing to take some off your hands! lol

  • You would only lose some boobage if it was fat and not breast tissue. So if your DD's are completely made out of breast tissue, then they would stay that way at your goal weight.
Chest exercises can make your boobs look bigger since the pec muscles will swell and get bigger. They can also give you a kind of pancake boob thing though, where your breasts look flat. It's like your boobs will spread out horizontally. Hope this helped!
