Hi gals,
I'm not new to the Knot, but this is my first post on the GIS boards, so here I go.
Here's my situation: I'm 5'4", ~133-135lbs and in relatively good shape. I'm not running marathons, but consider myself to be of average fitness. I'm just finishing the academic year and summer living in Lyon, France, where I did a teaching exchange with my FI. We walk, bike, and take public transportation around town. We also live on the 7th floor of our apartment building, so I get a fair amount of stairwalking in as well.
My problem is the stomach that I've inherited from my mother's side of the family. Although I feel that my ab muscles are pretty toned, I have one of those stomachs that slowly gains in size throughout the day in proportion to what I have eaten. In the morning when I wake up before eating anything my stomach is fairly flat. However, over the course of the day as I eat meals and drink liquids (which has been mostly water this year, although my alcohol consumption has also risen with being in France, hahaha), my stomach enlarges to the size of a 9-month pregnant person. Literally. When I suck my stomach in it goes back to being flat; however, if I just let it all hang out there, which is the more comfortable thing to do, I swear I look like I'm about to pop out a baby.
I guess this phenomenon makes sense, as clearly the food take up space and stretches my stomach out. I'm just wondering if anyone has tips out there on what I can do to help tame it a bit. Would upping my ab exercises to tone the muscles around my stomach help hold it in more? Obviously diet and exercise play an important role, and I acknowledge that some of my stomach problems are due to fat accumulations (the women in my family are traditionally apples). However, I assume the fat is what I see in the mornings before I eat...it's how to tame the post-meal belly that I'm curious about....
TIA.
ETA: I took some before and after pictures today...
Here's me (in my bikini) first this this morning before eating/drinking anything:

And here's me this evening, within an hour of finishing dinner, after a whole day of eating/drinking (not continuously, but an 1800 calorie day overall):

I also took pictures of me "sucking it in", which I am happy with aside from the discomfort of "sucking it in" all day long...
