Getting in Shape

Motivation?

I'm looking for tips on how to stay motivated in working out. I work from 9 to 7 every day and use my 1 hour lunch to walk on the treadmill. By the time I get home, I'm completely exhausted (from massaging all day! ah!) and have no energy in me left to do my Marisa Tomei workout video. Any suggestions from you ladies on how to lose some weight before next September?

Re: Motivation?

  • Start your day with the exercise video.  It's hard the first few weeks, anyone who says it gives them energy right away I question.  I feel so much better about the day when I do get up that extra 30 minutes earlier and get my exercise out of the way.  Not to mention, you won't have the entire day to find excuses to not workout.

    Maybe start slowly shifting into AM work outs.  If you have an "on demand" type thing from your cable company try a few 10 minutes routines, then start increasing the length and the time you are getting up.

    HTH =)

  • I agree!  Morning workouts are tough at first, but once you get into a routine and make it a habit, its great.  Then, you can't make any excuses later as to why you can't work out, because you are already done with your workout for the day.  Plus, I find that when I get a workout done in the morning, I tend to eat better throughout the day too!

  • if you're walking for an hour, you could actually cut your workout time in half and burn more calories by running sprints, or even doing hiit (high intensity interval training - google it, it's a great workout). i don't know how long your video is, but if you cut the treadmill time, you could use the rest of your lunch break to add some strength training, and then you wouldn't need to do the video when you get home. making a few changes will make the most of your time - good luck! :]

    Ditto...I couldn't have said it better myself...
  • I agree with everyone also it is very hard to get into the routine to start your day with a work out..but as you do you will feel like you have so much more energy and youll feel really good throughout the day. Remember cardio is very important in losing weight and dont forget to eat 5 small meals a day. Breakfast should be the biggest to jumpstart your metab. and then a snack in between breakfast and lunch like a yogurt or almonds. If you keep your eating habits up like that you will shed away the pounds!
  • Working out in the morning is so much better then after work. After doing it for a while I felt more energy and I just felt all around better. And I liked the results after a few months.

    Like pp's said it will not give you energy after 1-3 days of doing it, it may take you a few weeks to notice the energy difference.

    I also tend to eat healthy after knowing that I worked out in the am.

  • Thanks ladies! I never thought about doing it in the morning, because my fiance works late nights (getting home about 1) and i leave very early (about 8) so I try really hard not to wake him. Maybe I'll try this for a few days and see if he says anything about noise

  • If you are being to loud than I would just do a light workout such as pilates in the morning, and then when you get home finish up with a step workout or some thing else for about 30 minutes. If you have to split the workouts to work with your schedule then do it. You may have to work around it or try a few different ways before getting your schedule down. Good luck!!

    What helps me to get my butt off the couch to workout is reminding myself that I will feel better after, and that I will look good in time. And there are days that I just do it/push myself/make myself do it! Dont think about it, just do it. Good luck!!!
