Getting in Shape

HELP!

Im new to this board and i cant seem to loose weight!
I don't drink soda (4yrs off soda), i don't eat fast food (a couple of months), and i just cut out bread and pasta a couple days ago...I feel like I am cutting so much out of my diet that pretty soon im going to have to cut out food completely! I don't know what to do because i cannot cook to save my life and i don't have the money to buy the means that the weightloss plans suggest! I exercise as much as possible but i am always hurting myself. I am getting so desperate im almost willing to do anything to loose weight. My poor FI keeps trying to get me to go to the beach but I would rather die than be in a bathing suit right now so i have not been to the beach once this summer!

I have gained 20lbs in 5months and i cant figure out why. I know it probably has to do with me switching birth control but now i cant switch back because i will just gain more from switching again! Its getting depressing, i don't know what else to do...

  • Try going to sparkpeople.com or thedailyplate.com. They have free websites that help you lose weight. I don't know about the daily plate, but Spark People has an option for suggested meal plans.
  • Thanks you ladies. My doctors said if i keep gaining that i need to get my thyroid checked so im going to make an appointment soon because my birthday is coming up in the next couple of months and it would be nice to drop some of this weight!

  • So you can't cook . . .

Have you looked at Kashi frozen meals?  They're a better option than most, as far as avoiding trans fats and weird ingredients -- I use them on crazy days.  However, watch out for too much sodium if you eat them frequently.

Moreover, many healthy foods don't have to be "cooked" to be enjoyed.  Greek yogurt with whole grain cereal and fresh berries stirred in, whole fruits and and many vegetables eaten raw, skim milk with protein powder and frozen fruit (blended), sandwiches made with whole grain bread and lean meat/meat substitutes (no mayo, easy on the cheese) -- the list goes on from here, just use your imagination.  Does your FI grill?  Skinless chicken breasts and veggies like eggplant and squash are delicious grilled.

As a long-term solution, you might consider investing in a healthy cookbook geared at people like yourself (look for "beginner" or "basics" in the title).  You don't have to try to transform into a professional chef, but frankly it will be very difficult to get and maintain a thin (not to mention healthy) body if you're over-relying on packaged foods, take-out, and going out to eat.

  • I know you said that you don't want to switch birth control but that could actually help.  I am actually very sensitive to bc and the first one I was on caused me to gain 20lbs in just a few months and also gave me severe acid reflux.  After switching a couple times I actually found a bc that allowed me to get down to my normal weight again.  But I agree with the other girls..if nothing seems to be working you should go to the Dr. and get your thyroid checked.

  • coming form a nurse...

DEFINITELY get checked out by your doc.  BCP really shouldn't cause you to gain weight, possibly a few pounds of water weight, but not 20.  However you should also consult your GYN and discuss...

If all os ok physically.  Next step...examine your diet closely.  Although exercise is good for you and benefits the body in many ways...If you are consuming MORE calories than your body spends, not 2 ways about it...you will gain weight.

Check out weight watchers.  I lost 20lbs following it.  You don't have to be a chef, and you don't need to buy their foods.  But you will need to commit + plan.
