Getting in Shape

Medifast is actually working for me!

I started the medifast diet about a week ago, and lost 4 lbs already!  I'm not starving on it, and its a reasonable price (compared to Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem).  I'd be happy to answer questions for anyone!

Here's one, what's going to happen when you have to start cooking/making food for yourself again?

  • How many calories do you eat each day?  Is it liquids or solid food?  I've heard bits and pieces about it but I'm not sure I really understand it.  Do you know anyone who has been on it and has maintained their weight loss for several years?

  • i started in jan, lost 40lbs and have been able to maintain it. i love the food. it's not for everyone though. it's a lifestyle change for me. i've learned what's good for me and what's not. i used to love bread, rice and potatoes now i'm ok without it. i cook only things that are healthy for me. i have no problem saying no thanks when someones offers it or replacing it with a salad or veggies when i eat out. i'm very happy. i'm glad you were able to have a great experience so far.

  • I started it because a friend of mine had so much success with it.  She lost 70 lbs, and kept most of it off for a year.  She gained about 10 lbs, but she even said that was because she stopped making the healthy choices for herself that she learned while on medifast.

It can be either liquid or solid foods, depending on what you like.  I mix between shakes and scrambled eggs or chocolate crunch bars.  Its 5 of their meals, plus what they call "lean and green" once a day.  Honestly, I'm so full from eating everything that I sometimes don't want that 5th meal.
  • there is no way that i could have meals delivered to me. i like a variety of foods. the thought of having shakes and foods like nutrasystem make me gag.

What about days that you went out to eat or a party?  Are you allowed days off or did  you eat the medifast food everyday?
  • if i went to party, i would know ahead of time to save my last meal (which is called a lean and green where you eat lean protein and veggies or salad) for when i go out. for example, i went to a party while i was dieting and they had tons of great food like pasta's and stuff but i stuck to the salad and the grilled chicken. or, you can bring a ready to drink shake or a bar with you, or if the party is late, you can make sure you're done having all your meals by the time you go to the party. there are many options ;)

To each their own. Nutrisystems foods are actually quite tasty!
