Thought I was being good...

Ive been having small snacks through out the day (few grapes, an orange, yogurt, etc) But I read in a mag today that fresh fruit can make you bloat! HUH? Can someone please confirm this and give me reasons why? hahah

  • I haven't heard of this. I think fruit is great for you and if you feel fine, then it's fine.
  • I would say that unless YOU feel bloated, uncomfortable, and/or gassy currently with the amount of fruit you're eating, keep doing what you're doing. If you do feel bloated or gassy, you might want to discuss that with your doctor, as many doctors believe bloating is more associated with digestive disorders than with diet.

Here's some good info on digestion that may help explain in more depth:

  • Yes, I've heard some fruits and vegetables can cause bloat.  I read that brussel sprouts can cause bloating which is a shame since I recently discovered that I love brussel sproats.  But, I agree with PP, if you feel fine then keep doing what you're doing.

  • Unless somethings makes YOU bloat, there's no reason to avoid it.  And really, unless you've got a specific reason to avoid temporary bloat, who the heck cares?

  • Could it be the fiber? Fiber is suppose to make you gassy. I wouldn't stop eating it regardless because they are nice healthy snack/sweet treats.

  • I always find eating fresh fruit on an empty stomach to be the way to go. It digests quick and it always makes me feel really great!
You don't have any known allergies right?
