Getting in Shape

Need to tone arms without losing weight.

I know the subject line seems crazy but here is my dilemma; I had my second fitting yesterday and the dress fits like a glove (before the dress came in I lost about 20-25 lbs and so far I have been able to maintain weight & size for 2 months) but my arms are not where I'd like for them to be at all.

Any suggestions for exercises that can help me tone my arms without losing any inches in the bust would be super helpful! I've been using two 5lb free weights to do simple lifts but my lower arm muscles are the only ones that feel the burn! Any ideas?

Thanks :)

  • Fitness magazine has a ton of articles and suggestions to tone arms. It's free to join and you can read all of their stuff online.
  • you can definitely do that - in fact, you probably wouldn't lose much weight by just working your arms anyway.

my suggestion? get heavier weights. i know we've all been told that big weights will make us chicks get crazy gorilla-man arms, but it isn't true. the truth is you won't see much definition without them, so i would suggest 8s and 10s or higher, depending on the exercise and how strong you are now. www.womenshealthmag.com, www.fitnessmagazine.com, and www.realwomensfitness.com all have pretty decent routines of arm-toning moves, and good old-fashioned pushups will go a long way as well.

Building muscle will only get you so far, you won't truly see definition if there's still fat on top of the muscles.

But, you coulld defintely incorporate more arm work.  And as msange said, increase the weight.  You can't build muscle without using a challenging weight.  If you have access to a gym, use the heaviest weight you can to complete your sets.  And once you can get through that easily, increae the weight.  You won't get bulky.  Trust me.
